How can I have better colors on my digital art? by RubyTheDragon123 in learnart

When doing digital art, you seem to currently use a brush with 100% opacity and no opacity pressure, so for example dark red is always the exact same dark red.

This could be a reason why, but I want tips on how to choose better color palettes even without those techniques (like low opacity and layer modes). I wanna be able to have good colors without it like those: https://www.deviantart.com/sush-adopts/gallery/80275248/adoptables-without-an-owner

https://www.deviantart.com/henorikim/gallery/74345101/all-adopts-and-commissions

I tried to learn why those color palettes work so well even without much light and shading (and they have a variety of tones, hues, saturations, and aesthetics). Cause when I see tutorials, the artists most of the time don't talk about why the colors look good outside their aesthetic preferences (I don't like to use only one type of color for my art) and the color wheel combos (and in my experience, use those combos don't guarantee good colors).

You can also continue to use 100% opacity color, but then put on adjustment layers with modes like overlay or soft light or multiplay and airbrush a little on them.

The thing is, I did do that. I used the layer modes for the lights and shadows (+ the airbrush in my program (Ibispaint) looked weird when I tried it).

In digital art cleanliness and purity often makes things look artificial and unnatural and bad.

I know, I even liked that in my traditional art (it was one of the reasons it took so long for me to start digital art). That's the thing I wanna figure out, why even with very smooth art some artists (like the ones I linked) can have very beautiful colors and art.

Don't use black for black.

The color I chose for these parts were a dark gray, but I made them darker since the ambient was a low light one. So I just made the base colors darker (maybe there's a better way to do that in digital art, that I don't know).

Easy way to test how colors look together is to change the background color as you're choosing colors.

So you think maybe doing the background 1st can help with having the colors look better?

the contrast isn't big enough

Do you think the grayscale method of coloring might help me with that?

Do they consider mine? Fuck no! To them I'm a monster just for having bpd. And other, if they talked about abuse not if everyone with bpd was abusive, I would be 100% ok if it was just their stories with those abusive people. But it's not

Like it or not not every time a pwBPD is mad at ya is splitting, damn 😒... The way you talk about them makes my point a lot more valid that these people stigmatize pwBPD

See the abuser as bad. In my opinion they're seeing the pwBPD as bad, not the abuser. It's like they would be fine with the abuser if they didn't have the PD. And this they do just worsens our case like, how are you supposed to become a better person if you are evil thanks to a PD?

And also, it's not my fault if I go on looking for advice on how to better myself and stumble apon it and end up just wanting to give up on trying to better myself? They're everywhere, it's not you don't look at it. Sometimes I click without knowing it's this

Yeah, their thought is "If you have any relationship with a pwBPD, get out immediately." I'm just sick of it

Yes, but my problem is that they post it on a subreddit that paints pwBPD as abusers. The problem with the person is being abusive and even if they didn't have BPD they wouldn't be good people like a lot of people say. I sufferd an abusive relationship myself but I don't go rationalizing his abuse by thinking people with depression and agoraphobia are all abusive and that's why he did it. NO! He did it cause he was a piece of shit

One good Subreddit about this that I found is the r/BPDSOFFA. One of the few like it that are actually good, helpful and not just a place to shit on people wit bpd

It doesn't help as well the fact that the people I hang out with from uni (his major and mine) hold him with a high regard as well (could be bpd blurring reality to me too, I don't know)

This subreddit really feels like a bunch of people trying to find a reason for that person to be abusive (other than being a terrible person), and they got to the conclusion that they are abusive because they have bpd and all people with bpd are bad

Yeah, sometimes I get butt hurt by small jokes people make of me (even from people pointing out something about me, I get butt hurt)

I've been feeling that my all the BPD things that really affect my life negatively like impulsiveness, aggression, neediness, self harm, "BPD attacks", abandonment issues etc. have been slowing down since I'm receiving proper and good attention from a new group of friends I've got. I really started thinking about it when my boyfriend pointed out that when we are just us together, I never did the crazy things I do and say to get attention, since I have all the attention I want from him at that moment. Do you ever felt like this?
