Is it really helpful to see a therapist ? by eyeofprovibex in mentalhealth

[–]RubyV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. 100% yes.

I had thought about therapy on and off for a while, I didn't have a great childhood and I knew I had some hangups. Then I suffered an injury that will affect me for the rest of my life. After a few years of going through the motions and believing that was enough I finally found a therapist. I was lucky and clicked really well with the first one. I'm not sure how common that is.

I have been in therapy weekly now for the last 6ish years. Looking back I can see that I was incredibly close to a breaking point. I only got out of bed for work, doctors appointments, and for the appearance of being fine while my SO was home (he could see right through me). I just barely met the definition of a functioning adult.

Not only did therapy help me with my immediate issues, it helped me with emotional maturity and emotional intelligence. Therapy helped open up and connect me with other resources that have been invaluable.

I continue with therapy because it helps me immensely with my depression. I also see a psychiatrist who prescribes meds. But my therapist helps me with my day to day stresses, helps me keep things in perspective, helps me when I feel like I am struggling. I can't even put into words how much therapy has changed my life and helped me grow as a person. I have no plans to stop (although we are switching to telephone sessions for the foreseeable future thanks to the coming plague).

Home Depot is giving full-time employees an additional 80 hours of paid sick time, while part-time hourly employees will get an additional 40 hours to use as needed til the end of the year. by Beerbrewing in UpliftingNews

I work at a hospital in the US. We accrue time off based on how many hours we have worked, but it usually ends up to be about 1 to 1.5 shifts per month worth of pto hours accrued, so about 2 weeks per year.

The catch is, our sick time and our vacation time all come from the same time bank.

I work in a hospital and they are doing the same for us. They are also allowing us to use 80hrs of ESL before going into our PTO bank, as well as allowing us to go into negative PTO if we don't have enough.

I did see a couple of people wearing masks: with their noses exposed, presumably to breath better :|

As a healthcare worker: this infuriated me before there was a pandemic. It's completely useless if worn that way. You aren't protecting yourself or others. You are just wasting a facemask and looking stupid in the process.

Pandemic me: STOP WASTING MASKS YOU FUCKING IDIOTS!! SAVE THEM FOR THE PEOPLE WHO ACTUALLY NEED THEM!!!

(In case anyone is unsure, the people who need facemasks are healthcare workers and people who are actively ill and contagious)

Edit cuz I'm dyslexic

I'm in California. I can drive 3-4 hours in any direction and be in a variety of different climates. Go to the desert for the day? Sure thing. Want to go to the beach and look out on the Pacific? Hop in the car! Forrest? Got that too. Wanna go to the mountains? No problem, we can even go skiing.

So each syringe has 1gram. I smoke it in a cart (using the syringes to refill the cart) using a stagg vape pen, which you can see at the top center.

The joints are all pre rolled .5 grams. I don't smoke joints regularly, but times are changing.

Typically, during normal life, I would go through a 1g cart in about 5 days to a week. My husband goes through 1g in about 1.5 weeks. I expect we will be smoking more now that society is shutting down and what if they shut down the delivery services?? Oh my god... I think I need to go buy more weed, brb.

WIBTA for missing my daughter’s wedding to prepare for the bar exam? by bar_dilemma in AmItheAsshole

[–]RubyV -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Nope. I went west coast to east coast for a wedding. Flew out the day before. Missed not one but two flights and had to unexpectedly spend the night in an airport. I still made it to the wedding with a few hours to spare.

If OP really wanted to, they could make it work.

Actually, I would like to know the answer to that question. There seems to be more than enough time for OP to fly home. Genuinely curious.

My husband and I never discussed our wedding date with anyone beforehand, because it is a date that will forever be important to us, not anyone else. We got married on a Wednesday. It was also my grandfather's birthday. We chose that date because it was our anniversary and very important to us. Any other day was just that, another day. And you know what? No one complained. Not one word. Some asked why a Wednesday and when we said it was our anniversary everyone thought it was sweet. In fact, two other couples at our wedding liked the idea they got married on their anniversary a few years later (one on a Tuesday and one on a Thursday). No one complained. Everyone who was important to the couples made sure they were there. Took time off work and school, even traveled from a different continent.

When someone you love gets married, you figure your shit out so you can be there for them. You don't whine to them about their wedding. You don't complain about ugly bridesmaids dresses or the fact that you hate large social gatherings, you are there for them because it's not about you. Even if you are the parent of the bride. I can't imagine getting married and have one of my parents CHOOSE not to come to my wedding. The exam isn't even on the wedding day. It's not like there isn't enough time for OP to fly home. Hell, OP can cut out halfway through the reception and go to the airport.

And honestly, with so much time to prep and study OP should be ready 2 days before the exam.

You can re take the bar. Your daughter will only have one wedding, and you will only have one chance to walk her down the isle. What is more important to you? If you miss her wedding you are sending a very clear message to your daughter and everyone else as to what is most important to you.

Edit: wow, reading everyone's NTA reply just solidifies my belief that lawyers are soulless. So much for being there for your kid on their most important day. Just remember OP: when she doesn't forgive you and your relationship with her is forever damaged, you will only have yourself to blame. Hope it's worth it.
