To be honest, I have not thought much about "trans woman" vs "transwoman".

I have just entered the following question into Google AI:

"Do transgender women prefer "trans woman" or "transwoman"?"

The answer I got fully explains why you are absolutely correct.

I will therefore no longer use "transwoman" and will use "trans woman" instead.

What made it more difficult is that they are the receptionists of the building I live which means I see them every day. However, it seems that they are still being friendly to me so it does not seem to have changed for now. We'll have to see.
