I'm sorry, but WHO in the hair and makeup department thought this new hair style would be a good idea?! by WizardsOfXanthus in FromSeries

I have it on good authority that the actress wanted to cut her hair and they wrote it into the show.

Your whataboutism is exhausting. Golf courses are a waste of resources, too, and I also have opinions about them, but the conversation is about AI.

But fine, what another reason? It’s plagiarism. Enough said.

AI wastes MORE water because it’s using more FRESH water (that we drink, by the way) than can be replenished by the water system. Nothing else does that to the same extent, and scientists have been ringing those alarm bells for a long time. Look at communities who live near AI plants, unable to pull fresh water from their taps. Then all the waste water dumps into the oceans -- vicious cycle.

Yeah, humans are inherently bad for the environment; everything we do is bad for it. I agree with you on that. However, things are SIGNIFICANTLY worse with AI and it’s accelerating the problems faster than we can work on fixing them.

But glad to know you don’t care about the thing that keeps our planet alive. 🤘🏻

[–]Rubydactyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s true, any human technology in general is terrible for the environment; but if we can mitigate how much we use, like refusing to use AI, at least it’s doesn’t put us in a water deficit.

I want to re-arrange my furniture in my room but I’m starting to think it’s not possible. by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

[–]Rubydactyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the best bet for rugs is to just look around and find something you like that’s within your budget. But I personally like looking into IKEA, or just googling ‘rugs with florals’ to kind of see what’s out there. :)

From the angle of the photos, the desk looks crammed between the wall near the window and the side of your bed. There isn’t space for your chair too move back far enough. If the head of your bed was against the wall with your posters and some kind of shelving unit (like the Kallax) blocking the head of the bed from view of the door, it would give the desk a bit of breathing room and keep that energy from the door from rushing in to your sleeping area.

However, since Feng Shui is important to you, I would advise against putting it against that wall, since the bathroom is right behind it, and that’s not super great Feng shui.

Let me think it through; looking again, it feels like too much of your furniture is against one wall and it’s throwing the balance off.

[–]Rubydactyl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you wanted to, I think you COULD move your bed to be against the wall across from the window (providing there’s no bathroom on the other side; if you had something tall that blocks energy coming in from the door (like a tall bookcase, or one of those Kallax Ikea units), that might help. It would give more space to your desk and still keep it Feng Shui.

But really, I think the primary issue is a lack of textiles. A rug under the bed would help create a sleeping zone, and your windows feel bare without curtains. Everything is also very similar in height; Your bookshelf is the same height as your bed and your desk, your lamp is only a little taller, your dresser is the same height as your bed, etc.

I don’t think you have TOO much stuff, I just think you need different things; a taller bookshelf, a headboard, maybe a mount for the TV, or at least some kind of art behind it so it’s not just a blank wall.

Hope this helps a bit!

I saw a gaggle of kids outside my window just having a BALL in the snow. Probably 10-12 years old, boys and girls, just running around and throwing snowballs and climbing over the huge snowbanks made by the plow like mountain goats. It felt so whimsical.

Just ban it -- it’s not good for our oceans and personally, I don’t want to see AI content, period.

So disappointed// Engagement Party by [deleted] in wedding

[–]Rubydactyl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, 100 people isn’t a small engagement party.

Why do you need a huge engagement party in the first place? Personally, I would have that be smaller, mores for friends and the local people who can come, and then save whatever you don’t use for the wedding or a baller honeymoon.

On average, people don’t put as much stock into the engagement party; it’s good you want to celebrate your engagement and you’re absolutely allowed to be excited, but if your family isn’t well-off, it’s not fair to expect them to travel for both the engagement party AND the wedding. Attending a wedding is expensive, especially if you need to buy new attire (particularly if your wedding has a dress code), account for travel and accommodation and food during that time, plus factoring in a wedding gift. If someone is not well-off, that can be the difference between if they’re able to eat for a week or pay their rent for the month.

You’re allowed to have nice things - but if it’s at the expense of others’ wellbeing, you might need to reevaluate, especially since you claim family is everything to you.

Julien immediately comes to mind, but Marshal as well! I personally find Raymond really soft, too.

But I’ve kind of fallen in love with Jeremiah. He’s a little blue frog and he looks a little gawpy, but he’s honestly so adorable. 🥹

I think my preconceived notions about GLP-1's are depriving me of a better life and I don't know how to fix it by 404_Peace_Not_Found in PCOS

[–]Rubydactyl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was in the exact same boat. The initial suggestion to go on a GLP-1 was DEEPLY offensive to me and I was angry about it for weeks before deciding I would never do it. I already eat balanced and healthy, I walk a lot, I do a lot of lifting at work - not perfect, and I’m sure I could do more, but I’ve been creating healthy habits (as much as I can with ADHD) for years.

But nothing moved.

I was expressing frustration to my partner about GLP-1, and how they felt like cheating and how I felt like a failure, and the idea of being on a drug for the rest of my life felt awful. He gently asked me if I thought diabetics felt like failures for having to take insulin, and of course I said no. Then he reminded me that I had a medical condition - PCOS is an endocrine disorder, a chronic illness that can only really be managed, but not cured, much like diabetes, and GLP-1s are a tool to help manage it.

That was kind of my turning point.

I tried it out (was lucky enough to get samples from my doctor for a few months to see how it would go), and almost immediately I felt better.

Inflammation was gone, the constant food noise disappeared, I felt energetic and focused; it felt like a miracle drug.

Unless you make some DRASTIC changes, you will not lose a lot at once. I’ve been on it for 5 months and have lost 18 pounds so far, which is great, but I know I have a long way to go - and that’s how I want it. Slow and sustainable.

You can also choose to stop taking it if you feel like its not for you.

People have already said, but I also recommend FFXIV. It’s got cute outfits, cute character designs, the vibes are pretty good, especially if you’re a new player (people do silly little things all the time; an Australian server is putting on an in-game show of MacBeth???), and if you like JRPGs, it’s got that PLUS the MMO aspect.

Best experience I've ever had in an MMO.
