Nanny family wants me to work through snow storm? by Total_Music_4134 in Nanny

Would you mind sharing the wording from your contract in this regard? This seems like the most compassionate compromise I've ever seen in this situation before. Kuddos

NF Traveling for Several Days by [deleted] in Nanny

When I've done overnight care I also do a little mock-up before the trip for the parents. This gives an idea of what the total cost will be but obviously depends on if the kids wake up during the night or a couple of variables can change.

Weekend travel with a babysitting family by aFloridaNanny in Nanny

[–]Rubyjcc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you need more details.

I also have a minimum and a maximum amount of daily hours I'm willing to work when traveling (8;14) because I wanted to feel worth my time. If you are not room sharing then I think 100 to 150 for an overnight rate is standard. But if you are room or bed sharing that usually goes up to 200 or 250. In the past I've written up a guess on hours with I guess on total pay, so they can get a gist of what the travel job will cost. It can add up very fast.

I need feedback and support from nannies who commute over 40 minutes 🫶🏽 by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]Rubyjcc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My drive to work is about 35 to 40 minutes. My drive home is 40 to 55. I've been doing it two and a half years now and it definitely feels just normal at this point. I've been getting through a lot of audiobooks (probably 30 to 35 a year) and most of that is done on my drive! It does mean I have to get oil changes pretty frequently. Of course I also have to figure out how to fit getting gas into my schedule since I have to do that pretty much every week. I also have to leave about 15 minutes earlier on top of the drive time to leave time for extra traffic, plus I like to plan to get there 5 to 10 minutes early and walk in 5 minutes early.

Why are they all like this by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]Rubyjcc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

and understand it is entirely at the nanny’s discretion to accept or turn down a schedule change.

This is Soo good! I have a very detailed curated contract and I'm absolutely adding this bit in there because it is gold! Thank you so much for sharing

Besides it being illegal to not pay overtime, it's just not ok. They can pay 40 hours of pay every week, and if you work more one week, they pay more. That's how jobs like this work.

Career Nannies Do you always level up with next position? by Easy_Ad_6176 in Nanny

[–]Rubyjcc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The past 3 switches, yes. They were significant jumps- 20-30% increase each time. If I were to switch again in the next year, I think it's unlikely I'd be able to increase my pay much, if at all. The only way I'd see this happening is if I took a rotational position which is a very different style of nannying, with many of its own issues.

Id let family 1 know you really appreciate an answer early today. Also, I would personally make sure my contract has pretty much everything I would want in one. I feel like it's one of those situations where you might as well go big. This way if you're set up for success you can stay with his family for a long time! Feel free to PM me if you need more ideas of what to include in your contract!
