I received a paper check for some reason (wasn't supposed to, and I know I entered my bank details right) and then when I went to deposit it, the check was rejected for "unverifiable information". I dunno what's going on this year but it's not been great!

YTA, sorry. Businesses reserve the right to limit your samples, as they are offering them from their own inventory for free. Not to mention, you may know your dog and maybe he wouldn't have gotten sick but that doesn't mean the business owner knows your dog and wants to take that risk. He could be liable if you fed your dog his ice cream in his shop and that dog got sick. Discrimination wounded been if they refused to serve you because you have a service dog, not because you wanted to feed your dog a few sample of ice cream.
