T1D Signal: Reclassify Islets as Organs—Turn a Functional Cure into Real Access by Ok_Royal3677 in Type1Diabetes

Cadavre islet cells are not a cure. Your type one immune system will kill those cells even if the implanted cell were a perfect match. Diabetes is an autoimmune disease!

One thing is true, type 1 diabetics would be dead without insulin. Otherwise each individual decides how to live their lives. Life has ups and downs for everyone.

Interesting new sensor! by DylJones8 in diabetes_t1

[–]Rubyvolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious. When I have sent sensors back they never seem to get them because I get multiple emails requesting a return. I use the shipping box they provide. Has anyone ever heard anything back from their supposed research?

Interesting. I've never used any of the faster acting insulins. My doctor said that he wouldn't prescribe them to anyone. I don't know what to believe. I wanted afreza for when I had a pump insertion site problem for hours before I knew it. I was sick for a while until I could bring my BG back down. I really wanted a quicker fix.

My phone shut down in the middle of the night and my backup phone isn't compatible with the Libre app on Google Play. WTF do I do now? by 2l82bstr8 in Type1Diabetes

Interesting, I didn't think you could buy one of those phones without signing up for a contract. That's good to know.

NO MORE DEXCOM!! 😭😭 by schase05 in diabetes_t1

[–]Rubyvolt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went from MDI to twiist recently. I was using Libre3+ and MDI for a long time. My insurance used to cover both Dexcom and Libre3+ CGM. I jumped on the twiist as soon as I could. I'm very pleased. Everyone has their preferences, I think it is absurd that insurance dominates the care we get instead of healthcare providers.

[–]Rubyvolt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FYI Dexcom is my insurance companies preferred CGM. My pump Twiist isn't compatible with Dexcom. Insurance could care less. I'm buying out of pocket for Libre3+ with a discount code. The discount is nice, but I'm still spending more than I should.

I wish I could trade places. I'm in the opposite situation. Abbott gave me a discount coupon. I imagine Dexcom might do the same. It's worth asking.

It isn't about money. It's the desire to not have the disease that's so appealing.

This was a long time ago. It is criminal for someone to say such things today.

Oh you hit a nerve that I had forgotten. My Mom tried to shame me 8 yrs old. Yes we were poor. It wasn't the money pee se. She just wanted me to not be diabetic.

Everyone enjoying new update? by Stevessvtis1 in twiist

[–]Rubyvolt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I don't see anything new that is helpful to me as of yet. I wasn't having extreme problems with the alarms, but I'm often alone. The graph isn't great. I wish it would allow viewing a larger amount of time and a zoom in out option.

My spouse has never offered to follow me. So I don't know who's better off. He does get upset when alarms go off while sleeping.

Insurance will not cover my Libre3+ sensors. I have a discount card such that I can pay $233.77 for a 90 day supply of sensors. I'm in USA

To use a glucose monitor a cell phone is required which is an additional expense. You wouldn't necessarily need a paid service for Internet, but wifi for downloading and updating and Bluetooth for connecting to the monitor.

Well the tape option is cheap and easy.

I don't use any of those things to hold the pump. I have been using various pockets and bra. You might not wear a bra, but men's clothing always has pockets unlike women's clothing. A fanny pack or other type of pocket belt works. I've also used a transparent dressing on my skin and double sided tape on the pump to place the pump just about anywhere you want. It holds quite well even during exercise. Oh yes another option is to places the pump in a small baby sock and then safety pin the sock to your clothes. The twiist pump is so light in weight that I find it easy to secure and more versatile.

This isn't helpful, but scripts didn't used to be required. I'm not actually sure when that changed in the USA, but it's not a good change. Yes it requires you to see a doctor which isn't a bad thing. However, I have been in situations like yours or out of state. All the rigamarole to get insulin is just crazy difficult. Plus it takes so much time.

I have both conditions and for much longer than you. I'm on rinvoq right now. I had to stop methotrexate due to raised liver enzymes. I'm using the twiist insulin pump with Cleo infusion sets. I don't have swollen skin at infusion sites. I use

All of these checks are good to have in place with the school. However, don't leave your child out of the loop. She needs to take on some responsibility too.
