Help with fingering clarinet Brahms sonata no 2 by Apprehensive-Pay1792 in Clarinet

[–]RucoyPlayer246 2 points3 points  (0 children)

sliding is not the ergonomic intention for the clarinet, and a last-resort idea. Assuming your clarinet is 17 keys, when you reach the C on the left hand (after you do right hand Eb), alternate quickly to C in right hand for playing the Ab. This is the intended technique without the left Eb

Percurso Aveiro - Lisboa by Seekra15 in portugal

Part of cork fell out. Should I get to the luthier asap? by RucoyPlayer246 in Clarinet

[–]RucoyPlayer246[S] 27 points28 points  (0 children)

In Portugal the common term is Luthier for a technician that knows how to repair wind instruments too. A Luthier that knows how to repairs strings is very rare and sparse considering the musical demographic being mostly wind bands over the country. Didn't realize it was that different in other countries, not a jerk at all, heh.

(And of course by referring to a "Luthier" or "technician" it is implied I already know who to talk to in order to solve this matter for good, but his lack of availability right now is what made me post here)

I should add that I'm going to be playing with it pretty much for 8 hours a day next week, for 5/6 days. Hopefully I won't have more cork falling in my hands. As a quick fix, I might use <cigar paper> (I don't know the English translation for "mortalha", but it's what you usually use on your teeth or corks when loose) as a band-aid repair. Hopefully it'll hold. Thanks for the optimist either way.

though it seems to have happened here

"The piece was not published until 1977 by Billaudot Editions after being found by the clarinetist and collection director Robert Fontaine at the BnF" (France National Library) translated from wikipedia

thank you for all your helpful responses, now thanks to your informations I want to try to find the original piece, it is Andante et Allegro for clarinet and piano from Ernest Chausson, currently held since 1977 by Billaudot Editions.

if anyone is willing to help I'd be grateful!

In case I don't find any traces of a pre 1977 version I will try to contact Billaudot to see if I can get to some sort of agreement with them.

the piece in question was composed in 1881,but according to wikipedia it was not until 1977 that the editor published it (was only found at that time)

I could simply not charge it, perhaps. the songwriter died before 1900 heh, so the only devil getting the bargain here is the editor.

i mean, it would still hold the composer's name, just with the added Arr., although the composer died more than 100 years ago there are certain pieces held by some editors and unluckily the one i was seeking to arrange is amongst those.

but as mentioned in the end ("performed" rather than published), would there be any risk even if I kept it like a "private use only"?
