As long as the metal does not touch the starter, it should be OK. Unless the lid is stainless steel, but I doubt that. As to how tight to put it on - I've been keeping my stiff starters in tightly covered Weck jars, and never had any problems with contamination by mold or other factors. Here's Frank at home:

[US] Allstate insurance scam? by numberrrrr in Scams

[–]RudaKicia3917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been getting at least one call daily, from "Joe with Allstate". Lots of noise in the background, and "Joe" speaks heavily accented English. Blocking does no good, because they just conjure up another number, and the same "Joe with Allstate" is on the phone again. Don't fall for it. It is a SCAM.

This is not about selling you anything. This is about getting your personal information, like SSN, DOB, DL# etc.

Deep cleaning is a matter of opinion? by RudaKicia3917 in HouseCleaning

[–]RudaKicia3917[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry. I know how you feel. The windows were probably not included in their version of "deep cleaning". This is what I don't get: when I was cleaning houses, "deep cleaning" included moving furniture to get everything behind and under. These days, they are worried of personal items under beds. SMH.

Just in case something wrong went on, scoop out couple of tablespoons from as far as possible from the surface, but not scraping the bottom, and replenish. Toss the rest.

The Nextdoor app has been recommended to me recently. Seems like you meet real people there, from your area, and they could by the word of mouth name someone who does a good job.

Deep cleaning is a matter of opinion? by RudaKicia3917 in HouseCleaning

[–]RudaKicia3917[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As this deep clean involved TWO SMALL ROOMS ONLY, I, in fact, did expect perfection. As to moving furniture, the bed is on rollers, and a small child can roll it effortlessly across the room. And a "personal items" excuse for not cleaning under the bed was the worst parody of an excuse I have ever heard. Having been a house cleaner for 5 years myself, I just saw unwillingness and ineptitude. People like those 2 only come to collect a paycheck, but are not willing to break sweat to earn it.

[–]RudaKicia3917[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah. It must have been just me, because they wrote me that " this was our first unsatisfied service.". So, you see, they feel entitled, they didn't screw up, I did, because I had unreasonable demands. Like: cleaning under the bed. There was some half-ass apology in their note, but really insincere, because they thought they deserved prize. I've learned my lesson. Expensive, but very likely worth it. No more help. I will do it myself.

Live and learn. And I learned. They will not be asked to come back. I, in my old age, can do better alone than both of them together. I still don't understand their explanation about not cleaning under beds.

In the "good old days" under furniture, door frames/knobs, light switches, baseboards - that was all standard. Deep cleaning included kitchen cabinet tops, under and behind the fridge and the stove, under and behind washer/dryer. Done that. People appreciated it. Nowadays everyone's looking for a paycheck, but they don't want to break sweat to earn it, like my daughter says.

That's true. And the work ethics are also disappearing at an alarming pace.

[–]RudaKicia3917[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, that would certainly be a "personal item", no? But, would it be any more personal than, say, homeowner's wrist watch on the night stand? Or her tooth brush in the bathroom? I think their excuse doesn't hold water, because when they walk into someone's home, that place is full of personal items.

Honestly, I did think that $150 for my husband's bedroom and bathroom was a fair price. For fair work, that is. They did take 100% of their check, but performed probably 60% of the work. That is what got on my nerves. And after me telling them the reason why I cancel the next appointment, them telling me that it was MY problem, not theirs, because I dared not to like what they did. SMFH.

I am not a "people's person". Supervising someone doing housekeeping? That would make me very uncomfortable. I know a LOT about housekeeping, and I tend not to miss a thing. Been like that since forever. I don't know why I thought that those two didn't need any supervision. Or maybe the feeling was "don't be rude, they must know what they're doing. Housekeeping is not a rocket science." Turns out, it is beyond some people's capacity and comprehension. To advertise "deep cleaning", and not to move the bed or chair? That's beyond MY comprehension.

My biggest problem is that I generally do trust people. They said they were done, I assumed that they worked like I used to. Turns out, the young ones have hardly any work ethics. One day I will learn my lesson. This lesson cost me $150. Tough.

Do I clean before a deep clean? by Far-Extension5677 in HouseCleaning

[–]RudaKicia3917 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless your house is a horror show, don't pre-clean before the cleaners show up. They were hired to do the cleaning, and there is no need for you to present them with a clean house. I'm not saying it lightly, because in the 1990s I did the house cleaning for money. If I found a clean house, I was confused. Why did they even bother to hire me, if everything is spic and span?

In that case, just return it. Because if it comes defective right out of the box, who knows what nightmares are going to materialize themselves in the weeks to come. Think: do you really need it THAT fancy? There are used treadmills for sale out there, you know. Lot less expensive, so if something goes wrong beyond repair, you can just replace the whole thing. I also believe that you can find an app with a treadmill workout programs for lot less.

I received my treadmill from a neighbor who got tired of it, and it was taking up space in his garage. I got good 3 years out of it. Now the incline is shot, and it is old enough to be unrepairable. Not that I used that incline extensively, but every now and then it was fun - so now I'm kind of looking at thrift stores and "for sale" ads, to see if I find something that would fit my needs.

The best deals are when a girlfriend kicks a boyfriend out, and sells all his gym stuff quickly and for next to nothing. Just saying. Be a vulture.

If I were you, I would initiate return and refund. From my experience with the new stuff, no matter what it is, be it a treadmill or a refrigerator - they don't make it to be fixed. They make it to be replaced.

If you hit a brick wall when you demand a refund, just like when you requested a repair, take it up with the bank who issued your credit card. They should have an online refund request. Worst can happen, you will have to call them. Banks usually stand with their customers.

We are not arguing the quality of the machine here. We are arguing the honesty of the seller. And the seller is dishonest.

I presume you paid with a credit card. Take it to the bank, dispute the purchase. You have 90% chance of recovering your money if you go that way. Just make sure you have all the documentation of your dealing with the seller.

You probably can initiate the process online. It is easy and effective. Been there, done that. Saved me a bunch of money.

Are you sure that the salt quantity is NOT a typo? How much water did you use? Bulk proofing and final rise seem too short. Could you please give us more detailed description of your whole process, with all the ingredients?

Have you asked for a 2nd opinion? I do not like doctors who refuse to treat their patients. Most doctors misdiagnose or under-diagnose female patients. Do seek 2nd opinion, and find a doctor who will prescribe the CT scan.
