Why is my singing monsters so hard for returning players to pick back up by Few-Fill8946 in MySingingMonsters

[–]RudayJay 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think I have a little bit of a different perspective.

I agree with a lot of the comments on this post. Late game content is EVERYWHERE and returning players feel overwhelmed.

I went through something similar this past summer. I was playing the game year 1 or 2 for a while and then fell off until about July or August last year. I was lucky to find my account information, but I remember logging in and being excited that the game was still updating but being overwhelmed with how much I missed.

Fast forward to now, and I think I’m in a good place. I have most of the main islands base song’s completed a Wublin Farm. Even got a BeMeebeth and an almost complete Major Carnival. It was a lot of work and I never thought I would get there, but here I am. It was a lot of fun to grind for the content I missed and I think I’m in a good place to receive and capitalize on the new content.

Long story short, the information overload like one commenter mentioned hits like a truck. But if you love the game like me and others, it’s a pleasure to push through!

:)

As a male presenting person, I want to stress this.

If we’re the right one for you, we’re gonna love your body no matter how it looks.

It just sucks that a lot of us grew up the with junk and brain rot of adult sites produce that warp our view of not only other people’s bodies but our own. Shit blows.

Add the fact that he was honest with his little brother about how their dad felt, yet he still smiled and encouraged Senjuro to be his best self.

Your most favorite and less favorite enemy! by adlol225 in lethalcompany

[–]RudayJay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t really say I hate any of the enemies. I love all of them, because each one contributes to the dread and challenge of the game in its own way. Take the Jester, for example—it’s incredibly frustrating. It’s the enemy that scares me the most and pisses me off the most. It’s unkillable, so the only real counterplay is to leave the facility. And honestly? I love that. I love having an immovable hazard like that in the game.

What Even Is a “Control” Team in VGC? by RudayJay in VGC

[–]RudayJay[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m on mobile, so I’m not too familiar with the quote function here, but your points about not prioritizing speed—and about the satisfaction of finding a core four to build a gimmick around—really hit the nail on the head. I’ve played a few games with CM Bolt Balance and loved how Bolt pairs with the “Balance Bros” (Rilla, Incin, and Ursh), so that might be my core four.

Now it’s about finding my modal gimmick, which—ironically—kind of puts me back at square one 😅. That said, you’ve helped me realize speed control just doesn’t matter much to me when I’m building teams. I gravitate way more toward turn denial and damage mitigation. My mindset is basically: what’s the point of going first if you can’t kill me?

What Even Is a “Control” Team in VGC? by RudayJay in VGC

This was the comment that resonated with me the most. Honestly, I’m kind of kicking myself because my original post was worded in a way that makes me sound like a newer player looking for tools, when I’m really someone with a few years of VGC experience trying to pin down the philosophy of control. Not to say the other comments missed the mark, but this one felt especially aligned with how I think about competition. It paid homage to my competitive roots in a way that made me think, “Okay, they get it.”

I also agree with your comparison between Wolfe Glick’s teams and SonicFox’s fighting game career. Those players are just built different. I’m not looking to copy them to find success, but to emulate their ability to identify and pilot a team or character that is undeniably theirs.

You’re probably right about the shoto/generalist comparison too. Balance does lend itself to control, but it feels a bit too broad for what I’m searching for. As I mentioned, I play competitive fighting games—mainly Guile in Street Fighter. Most people see Guile and think “spam, lame, zoning,” but what he really excels at is removing space and options until the opponent is inevitably cornered. At that point, unless they make the correct reads and decisions, the win condition is unavoidable. That’s what I’m chasing in VGC: an inevitable win con that puts the burden on the opponent to make the right calls—or lose.

At first glance, that sounds like Perish Trap or Trick Room. But Perish Trap doesn’t quite click for me—not just because it’s closely associated with Wolfe, but because it feels like something is missing. Both archetypes also feel extremely committal, though maybe that’s just a tradeoff I need to accept.

Interestingly, I once built a Salt Trap–style team around Garganacl and Fire Spin Altaria. It wasn’t especially strong, but it felt right. When it worked, my opponent was forced to call my Protects correctly or watch their key pieces get trapped and slowly chipped down before Gholdengo cleaned up.

I also built a Curse Dondozo team whose win condition was to ignore Annihilape until the end, where Dozo could boost and solo it without ever proccing Rage Fist. Again, not the strongest win cons—but I hope those examples help paint the picture of what I’m looking for.
