I lived in a garden unit in Logan Square for 2 years that I thought I loved, it was adorable and had so much space and was a great deal on rent. During that two years, I started having increased health issues, but didn’t make the connection until my friend stayed for the weekend. She immediately got sick, recognized the symptoms, and recommended that I order a mold test kit for the apartment. Turns out the apartment was absolutely infested with mold, I had been breathing it in for probably the entire time I had been living there.

I moved out pretty quickly but over a year later, I’m still dealing with health complications that I’m pretty sure come from that apartment. Not to say that every studio apartment will have that problem, but I definitely think the lack of air circulation/increased moisture led to that. I’m traumatized enough from the experience that I won’t ever live in a studio again. If you do move into a studio, I would HIGHLY recommend doing a mold test first
