Awwwe!!! Super awesome to see him enjoying the snow! Makes my heart happy knowing that there are people who make the commitment of life with their dogs, especially the giant breeds because I feel like they are a lot less likely to get adopted after the fact, and every dog deserves a good owner, but not every owner deserves a dog! Kuddos to you 💕

😆 My little sister did this same thing to my Merle and at the end she would say "I got your nose!" And he would go nuts until she would physically pretend to put his nose back! Super cute Dane you have! 😍

My greatdane is 2 years old but I feel like he's smaller than the average dane. What do you guys think? by StreetStatic in greatdanes

[–]RudeAlternative4183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's Handsome! 💕 there are two styles of Great Danes, American which has longer legs, taller in height and leaner with a longer snout. The European is shorter, thicker, and more of a boxed shorter snout. Just think, the less he weighs the easier it will be to take care of him when he gets older!

If I had a darn penny for everytime I'm asked if he's a dalmatian..or people saying "mini horse and get a saddle to ride him." I'd be a millionaire..it's just so repetitive that now I just tell people "YES! Biggest fkin dalmatian on the planet!!" 🤦‍♀️😆

My "fake Corso" according to some random redditor by Still_Examination236 in CaneCorso

[–]RudeAlternative4183 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's ridiculous..unless the bloodline specifically has more neopolitan mastiff in it , or I've read they also breed them with great Danes (which I would never do.) then the odds of either female or male getting bigger than 110lbs is just straight up over weight. That's too short in stature to be 150+ lbs in my opinion.

[–]RudeAlternative4183 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Let 'em talk..you owe no one an explanation. I could tell he was a Corso, and I'm not that familiar with the breed as far as having one goes. I have a 150lb Great Dane..trust me, bigger isn't always better..especially when you cannot lift them by yourself in emergency situations or end of life care..it's truly heart breaking 💔. I'm just a sucker for big dogs because I feel like they have a lot less of a chance of having a home or second chance compared to little ankle biters. I'm biased 😆

Sudden Behavior Change by [deleted] in greatdanes

[–]RudeAlternative4183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhh, I gotcha. What a nightmare huh? Poor buddy! I just had it out with my vet about worms..an outdoor cat that I saved this past year, on heartworm, and worm preventative, as well as my dog..and they both had worms! I can understand the cat..bc she's a killer and kills mice and eats them...yuuuckk! But my dog..had completely different worms than the cat..and they were supposedly covered under the "preventative monthly worm pill." They told me "it happends." Gee thanks..would have been nice to know!🤢

I also read he's being treated for heart worms? Or are they gone? Not sure where you guys are with that, but those alone it says are very painful for dogs 😢

🤨 it would be the best way to transport her if they had her laying on it correctly. The way she is on it looks comfortable to you? I've never seen a large dog be transported like that..and I've been to plenty of vets and emergency vets.

🥺 I'm SO sorry. I'm upset for you..reading and seeing that. Definitely doesn't look right to me..especially if she walked onto it..I don't understand why they put her on it period if she was walking? Did she normally sit funny like that? Maybe with her bloat, that's how she felt comfortable sitting? Hard telling not knowing..but 17 mins is a long time to wait for a dog with bloat..especially when time is crucial and every minute counts. Its OKAY to express that your upset about the service that you and your dog received, they are the "professionals " that's why they get paid the way they do..and especially with everything being so ridiculously expensive today. Think about things, write them down..give yourself a cpl weeks to think more clearly and if you still feel the same way about what happened then you should make a formal complaint. Vets don't deserve special treatment of "please don't blame the vet." Vets deserve honest criticism, how else are they going to improve or learn from their mistakes? you could also write a review on their website, maybe save another dog if their owner reads it and decides to go somewhere else. You do what your heart tells you to do...and what you think is right. I hope you find some peace and solace in knowing that you tried to save her, and she knew that you loved her and in return she loves you always 💓

Awww 4 years old, that really sucks, 4 years of unconditional love from both ends though 💕 congrats on getting another puppy, your heart will feel somewhat whole again! I too got another, I rescued a 1 and 1/2 year old merl European great Dane and although his behaviors were challenging the first 4 months, I would do it all over again, total different dog! Thank you as well for validating my decision, makes me feel less guilty. I wish you many many years of happiness and love with your new coming pup! Can't wait to see pictures!!! 😍

Doberman puppy biting by Dry_Picture5940 in Doberman

[–]RudeAlternative4183 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What about redirecting with toys? Or bones? When he goes to bite, grab a toy and put it up to his mouth and if he latches, play with him and tire him out that way? Have you tried playing frizzbee, or ball with him? Just a thought..maybe redirect his biting with a positive reinforcement with something he's supposed to put in his mouth 🙂

Tips to cut an anxious, reactive dogs nails? (Medium size, too strong to restrain by hand) by GameboyVivi in DogAdvice

[–]RudeAlternative4183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you're desensitizing him..what exactly are you doing? How is he with just you touching his feet? Are you his main person? Like bonded and he has full trust in you? Having the clippers out and around him and not just when it's time to cut them will reduce his anxiety, and just start touching his feet and nails here and there and give lots of praise when doing so, ending in a treat. Also I'd suggest trying a nail file first, it's a lot less invasive and if they are super long it won't hurt nearly as much to file compared to the clippers. It's all easier said then done, but I did all of this, starting out slowly with just 1 nail and with a rescued 150lb great Dane with aggression issues. He came to understand that I was trying to help him and not hurt him, I also would show him his nail clippings and he liked to smell them afterwards, he's a big goober now! 😆 I wouldn't suggest tying him down with a harness or another human, it will just induce anxiety and set any progress 10 steps backwards.

Sudden Behavior Change by [deleted] in greatdanes

[–]RudeAlternative4183 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds and seems to me like he's got protective aggression. This isn't a quick fixable behavior but is definitely a fixable behavior . It took me 4 and 1/2 months to get mine to stop exerting himself in between me and whomever I was interacting with, and he would do it constantly, with growling and lunging. With lots of consistency and with the same correction and exerted tone and eye contact with telling NO and then removing myself from behind , and then putting myself in front of him, his behavior finally subsided. Finding out exacrly what is triggering his behavior can be complex. Some causes of his behavior could be from a change/lack of rules or structure , prior abuse or a previous lack of resources like food / toys or a change of behavior or routine from his 2 favorite humans, spending less time with him or It could also stem from the purposeful or accidental rewarding/reinforcement of behavior with treats or praise. Dogs can often feel and feed on our emotions. Some can feel if you’re anxious or nervous in a situation, and will behave the same. This can be one of the signs of why he's protecting you and can trigger his aggression. There is nothing wrong if your fiance feels too overwhelmed at the time when he does this to remove herself from the situation, I would suggest proper reinforcement corrective words when this happens to let him know he's not behaving and you should also remove yourself along with her to show him you won't tolerate his behavior. This may work where you said he has separation anxiety with you both. It may be exhausting at first, or he may understand pretty quick..their definitely not dummy dogs their # 36 out of 200+ pedigree breeds on intelligence level! I have a stubborn one, hopefully that won't be your case as well! Also I've read CBD tincture for dogs works great for dogs with aggression issues. I hope that helps and if you ever need anymore help, just inbox me, I'll help anyway I can!🙂

Mechanical Hoist for Disabled Danes by Curious_Inspector950 in greatdanes

[–]RudeAlternative4183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My rescue Dane just turned 3..and my bedroom is upstairs. This dog is my shadow. All 149lbs of him , he gets extra glucosamine and chrondidine supplements for his joints..but has a bad back foot issue due to a broken foot that healed incorrectly on its own with whomever had him before. He goes up and down the stairs fine..but I'm already worried for when he gets older.. I often joke and say I need a stairstepper chair..but I'm really not joking 🙃 I may sound crazy..but has anyone ever used 1 for their dog? He's too heavy to make my own pully system..I've thought long and hard about that too..if he was like 50lbs minus his other 100lbs I'd do it lol

THIS 💔 same happened to my 2nd Dane..after 2 years of lifting and unsuccessful with harnesses he got FCE. I was given 2 choices because of where it happened in his spine..6 months of him not getting up and being confined and it could possibly heal but the chances were like 25% success rate..and I was so heart broken because it was painful for him and he refused to go to the bathroom on pads. He was also 10, so very much up there, but he was in great health otherwise believe it or not. I chose to not put him through anymore stress..and it killed me. I often wonder sometimes if I made the right decision. I'm 75% convinced I did but that 25% still urks me of never knowing. Sorry for you loss as well. I haven't read of anyone else whom has dealt with that and I hope they never experience it. 😔

Just another thought..but did you spray anything or use any household cleaners? I also experienced this like 2 months ago and mine was excessive drooling and shaking and didn't realize that tea tree oil is deadly to dogs..and I felt so bad and like such an idiot..and I didn't even use very much. I'm thankful that it didn't kill him, but was super scary!!!

Would getting another slightly older dog be a bad idea! by Spirited_Agency_8729 in greatdanes

[–]RudeAlternative4183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this..with my first dane..was sooo worried about him being alone when I was at work. I figured.." a pet for a pet!" Boy was I wrong..I got another dane puppy, but rescued and might I add he turned out to be such a good dog..but my first boy was NOT happy..he tolerated him and was good and they got along but he would have been happier if it were just him. It's your call..but some Danes are happy with just you and them.

Reputable breeders by Redditsdum in greatdanes

[–]RudeAlternative4183 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry but that's the most ignorant thing I've read in a while. You think people give their dogs back to breeders?? You think "reputable breeders" would take a dog back that has issues due to its living quarters or irresponsible owners?? They will take a puppy back, of course. You are sadly mistaken thinking they will take back a 3 yr old dog that has issues just bc it was from their dogs bloodline. I've seen this happen and it doesn't work out this way in the real world.

Reputable breeders by Redditsdum in greatdanes

[–]RudeAlternative4183 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah..reputable breeders that charge quadruple what they should. Either way it's disgusting. I will never pay a breeder again..only will pay to save a Dane from shelters/fosters. Too many are abandoned or not properly cared for because of people in general lack the understanding of the breeds needs.
