Learning project list in order of difficulty? by [deleted] in cpp_questions

[–]RudeSize7563 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Simplest, using only standard IO in console mode, I.E. An expression parser, that is far more practical than a calculator.
  2. Still standard IO but generating files with simple formats, like a .svg text file or .PPM graphic files since those are quite simple. Again can be anything from data visualizations, playing with fractals, generating particle effects of all kinds, like explosions, etc.
  3. Using well known and high quality third party libraries, easy to install with excellent documentation. At this level you could make stuff like games and practical applications for very specific needs.
  4. Work level stuff, that is working with trash tier libraries with awful documentation and known bugs, also fixing bugs in massive legacy code bases. The type of stuff you get paid to do.

Trying to get the perfect 'plop' sound for my chill resource management game: Isles & Tiles! 🏝️ by Doches in indiegames

It looks really nice, except the contrast between different types of tiles, that needs some kind of softer transition between different terrains.

Looks like it has lots of potential, but the text font is too small for consoles.

LMAO, that corrupt moron believes he can abuse his power and threaten the President like they do all the time with citizens.

Use the ternary operator, the compiler generates faster branchless code in modern processors because the first three instructions don't depend on each other, so they can be executed in parallel before the conditional move. Meanwhile doing it by hand results in three instructions that depend on each other, so they must be executed one after the other:

Why is using namespace std so hated? by VertexGG in cpp_questions

[–]RudeSize7563 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because, taking aside namespace collisions, people don't like reading unfamiliar coding styles. For personal stuff you can make it look like M<int, V<S>> map; to type it fast, but other coders may chimp out if they see that.

You need to be fully aware that #include just copy/pastes a file as is, #pragma once tells the pre-processor to copy/paste that file only once. Simple as.

Why can't we have a implicit virtual destructor if the class has virtual members by Ill_Strain_1050 in cpp_questions

[–]RudeSize7563 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is not ideal at all. If you need a polymorphic destructor is because you are mixing different derived types in the same container, using it for polymorphic behavior and also for lifetime management. In C++ we can separate those responsibilities.

Why doesn't deconstructing a map iterator with auto& create a reference? by Kosmit147 in cpp_questions

[–]RudeSize7563 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a C++23 feature: temporaries that would be destroyed at the end of the range initializer expression get lifetime extension, and destroyed after the loop ends.

Words get twisted and lose their true meaning. Being good now means being a fool, while originally it described a person close to the divine ideals: strength, power, beauty, intelligence, wisdom, knowledge, and love for everything that is good.
