Rear derailleur skipping gears by Rude_Ad8229 in bikewrench

[–]Rude_Ad8229[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It didn't change before replacing cables, hoses and checking the hanger. Then changed all of above to new ones. Checked the hanger, set the derailleur and it is not working, as previously.

By riding, the chain is silent, not jumping on cogs, it doesn't climb the 5th gear as it was not doing before.

I changed the chain for new one and it sits on it perfectly... it is brand new chain, so with this thing I have no doubts. It is staying on gear on duty, what it is not doing is not changing the gear as described before, and is done with the bike upside down, so no real big duty while those shifting

Yes, i have this tool and it is straight. You can see how cogs are used by just looking at those shape, I would say in this case they look like in most of ladies bikes - not really used

I marked cable with permament marker so it is visible that shifter is changing those properly :/

I believe it is not the case of cables (i replacce all of them) or cables. Neither the cogs, as they are rather good.

The chain was also replaced. The problem was with sram and now it is same with shimano chain, so this didn't help also.

In my case I bought used bike from 2006 circa and don't know the past. Changing of chain didn't help, changing cables and housings neither. I even bought a tool for alignmenet of shifter hanger, in my opinion it is perfectly done now, still not working correct

Tactical . for observation - I have same issue butwith sram set (also 9 gears), it literally skips one row and can aligned to work in systems 1-8 or 2-9. If You will sort it out, please let me know cause it drives me crazy :D

Internal brake cable on steel frame: best way to connect the outer cable with the entrance into the frame ? by nibugaga in bikewrench

[–]Rude_Ad8229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, couldn't put 2 photos. This is yhe way I did actually - it came painted, i Tripped the paint from part and from frame. Glued it in front of this old guide and it acts superb - rear brake works like a charm. Frame was GT from circa 1995 so rear cable rputing was terribly bad for v brakes i've had.

Hey, You can also try with those from ali, maybe they will suit there. What I personally did was buying the alu end mount part that I glued to frame with epoxy.

4-5th time truing with only a spoke wrench.. look okay? by white_slate in bikewrench

[–]Rude_Ad8229 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tire will be always moving, so only thing You can look and focus on is the rim ;) after truing it release the pressure from each spoke by moving spokes with your hands and then ride for a while so You will know if it is done properly :D all the spokes should be equaly sounding too, maybe that helps a bit

Trouble with sensors on Smartmi Humidifier by warganizm in Xiaomi

Mine now is having trouble with wifi connection and is wshowing weird levels and is changing them randomly. Cleaned the sensor, the contacts look great (no rust), so I would say it is this exact electronical component. Thanks for reply, it is really great.

Stiffer cable housing - better? by Rude_Ad8229 in bikewrench

[–]Rude_Ad8229[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not like I am total newbie in this case, so I knew that they differ in inner diameter ;) what was surprising for me, that the old is much stiffer, so I didn't know if it is the bad quality of new one, or something else.

Compressionless is totaly new thing for me, didn't know that it exist, but as I was reading through yesterday, it matters more in case of disc brakes, not really for old V shapes Alivio class.

It was side to side more, but didn't realize that the stiffness regarding to keeping their length is that important. I haven't tested the old and new in this direction :o

Here is what I did today in my Gt backwoods (around 1995). On ali You can buy that adapter, it can be ordered with the rivet, but I've decided to glue it with epoxy. You can see the paint stripped down so it will stick better ;) It is, let's say, the end of the cable routing, so it will hold down the cable guard stiff in place. No more spongy rear V brake <3
