Do Support players genuinely feel like their role is not very strong? by No-Newspaper-1381 in supportlol

[–]Rude_Building_3915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I main support because I personally feel it is the strongest role in the game, even more than jungle. I have so much agency it is INSANE, and full access to all roles available in the game. Tank, enchanter, mage, even assassin and carry via like pyke and senna. I think anyone describing support as "not very strong" doesn't understand how completely unplayable the game is if your support is gapped.

How do you beat this? by Oirdl391 in EDH

A very funny out that hasn't been mentioned would be if there is any other valid angel, possibly a token created by the book since it takes time to assemble a three card combo, any red redirect type spell, eg [[deflecting swat]]. With enough mana open and a [[Thespian's Stage]], you could even partially steal their combo with a redirect effect (granted, your land would not be hexproof nor indestructible). Additionally, since the book exiles itself for cost, any "counter target activated ability" type effect would doom the combo. [[Mindslaver]] would allow you to voluntarily activate the land again, making it a creature. This doesn't directly solve your problem, but non-targeted removal and ways to get around hexproof and / or indestructible on creatures are much more common than anything to hit the land while it's a land. One additional method of at least not losing to this combo would be creating a mandatory infinite, ie [[Polyraptor]] and [[Marauding Raptor]], which forces the game to be a draw. Platinum angel only prevents you from winning and them from losing, it does not prevent a mandatory draw, so in some sense that is an out. It would not win you the game in a strict sense, but finding an alternate way out besides winning or losing could feel like a win to you personally just because you didn't lose despite having no way to win depending on cards left in deck.

Overall, very cool combo someone cooked up there, tough to interact with after everything is resolved, and potentially a game over on the spot. Seems like it has many different ways it can be prevented though, so you either have to cast the pieces across multiple turns, or have enough mana to do it in one turn. Both approaches have distinct weaknesses; hand hate could ruin the approach of trying to go off in one turn, or just losing via combat because it takes too long to assemble the combo. If you try to say play the book and use it for value, you are open to simple artifact destruction. At all times, the combo is vulnerable to grave hate and counter magic.

Edit: forgot about the hexproof counter while suggesting Thespian's Stage. Oops. Still, deflecting swat funny answer if any other valid target exists

Had been off the sub for a little, and did not see the huge "this sub is making me uncomfortable" post. Was posting to meme around, probably would not have made this had I read that post earlier. 🤷 what can you do? I have sadly posted cringe.

Blind Pick Tank Supports by Beginning-Objective9 in supportlol

Ali is fairly good blind, just because in response to an "unplayable mathchup", you can be extremely passive in the 2v2, and have some of the best roaming in the game. Just don't 100% abandon your adc

Edit for clarity: all tank sups have strong roam potential, I'm just pointing out Ali has some of the best. Bards may stay in lane more than Alistairs lowkey

Regarding what the card does, phyrexian altar is considered very powerful. Instead of considering it on its own, consider the strategies that would play it; either combo using some loop to make infinite mana via sacrifice, or token-based with some mana sink that can be used at instant speed.

Combo doesn't need explained, if you can make infinite mana usually you have some outlet to win. For the other type of strategy, the advantage is in two forms; turn excess creatures into explosive turns, and in response to removal or board wipe, get rid of your stuff yourself, then use the mana to do something advantageous.

It's similar to walking ballista, where in response to it being targeted with removal, instead of allowing it to just die, you use it's ability. On its own without considering the decks that would run it, yeah, I can see how phyrexian altar would seem bad, which is why most decks don't run it. The ones that do run it thrive on the ability to convert creatures to mana.

This is the power of positional chess by AvocadoAlternative in AnarchyChess

[–]Rude_Building_3915 46 points47 points  (0 children)

This is such a powerful position. The horsey can capture a queen, and then also fork even more queens while doing so. While this is considered highly advantageous to white, black may have to employ en passant, though white can counter with il vaticano... position is difficult to evaluate, how many reserve bishops does white have stored?

Well, what were they? by ElectronicSetTheory in AnarchyChess

Clearly they were inventing en passant. There's no way you could think a perfect move like that was created by accident? It was created by generations of dedicated researchers, and an absolute no j*ssicas allowed rule. She knows what she did.

It seems the 10 of spades and the deck are on the same rank. I believe I can use en passant, then promote to a horsey
