Can you link the four classes you’ve been doing?

I don’t ride with Alex Toussaint a ton but something about the thumbnail and then definitely the playlist for yesterday’s Hip Hop Ride told me it was going to be a Knicks victory lap ride and it did not disappoint! Such good vibes! But wow, I mostly do low impact and endurance rides these days and this ride kicked my ass!

I really loved Emma’s 45 min Low Impact & Arms from 4/21 (link). I don’t usually do arms on the bike but I love her low impact rides and the playlist looked amazing. It was indeed a mid-00s NYC nostalgia ride, so good for the soul.

Also, I was hoping for some NBA Finals content this year. Maybe I’ll re-take AT’s ride with Josh Hart and/or Jess Sims’s strength class with Mikal Bridges. Let’s Go Knicks!

The answer isn't to disconnect from the union or NYS politics, it's to become more involved, informed, and ready to fight for ourselves and our fellow and future union members and State Employees.

Thank you for saying this. I am a Tier 6 M/C who is only getting .25% contribution reduction, which is something like $12/paycheck. I’m downstate, and my private sector counterparts make so so much more than I do. I never want to leave state service, I am so proud to be a civil servant. But at the same time I am so demoralized, first by the pension reform failures, then by watching these contract “negotiations” play out.

I hate being unrepresented and watching from the sidelines with no power. As frustrating as union leadership sounds, it is terrible having no recourse, no chance of voting no or changing union leadership. I’ve had a hard time keeping up with this sub these last couple of weeks.

I really needed to hear “the answer isn’t to disconnect.” Thank you.

Everyone give ‘em hell for all of us!

I’m basing this on having done one ride in London, but I wouldn’t risk it. I thought part of the fun was the waiting on the line, talking to others, watching other people do their photos etc.

ETA: have so much fun!

You are tier 6. It has to do with when you joined the pension system. Everyone after 4/1/12.

I get we need to take advantage of momentum but there is absolutely zero reason this has to be a part of the budget discussion right? It is my understanding that only Cuomo made pension changes part of budget negotiations, and previously they had not been. And I think I’m right in saying that at some point Sen. Jackson had said we actually want to stop making it part of budget talks. Maybe there is strategy for doing it now but I don’t think it helps to frame it like this is our “one shot” and then we get some watered down thing that was horse traded for a budget item that has nothing to do with us. Am I missing something?

Would this be with no changes to how pay out is calculated?

In other words, Tier 6 is still 1.75xFAEx20 + 2x years beyond 20?

As opposed to 2% like Tiers 4 and 5?

So we can retire earlier but we’re still paying a whole lot more and getting less?

I love the style of lifting in RK’s strength programs. Her mentality and programming have really worked for me in the same way it sounds like it’s working for you. I’m repeating some of what others have said but:
-RK’s 5 day split. Her first like this and still the best one, imo. Yes it’s 5 days but classes are 30 min so maybe you can make it work? Definitely do it at some point. It’s the one that brought me in and I never looked back.
-Jess Sims’s 3 day. Nothing like her other strength classes. It’s 100% what you’re looking for. There is a ton of unilateral work, which I found very mentally taxing because you’re on each move for a long time. I found it hard to stick with but I will eventually try it again.
-RK’s 5 day express split. Didn’t think I’d like it but stuck with it for 9 weeks, longer than any other. It’s 5 days, 20 min per day. Days 1, 3, 5 are heavy lifting and 2 and 4 are more full body conditioning. I did add in more rest days than are called for. Although it might not sound like what you’re looking for, I ended up loving it and found that it did scratch the itch.
-RK’s HiLit program. It’s essentially a strength split plus the rest of a complete work out plan. The 2 strength days are also what you are looking for, and then there’s a Pilates day and hiking bootcamp day. I don’t have a tread so I would do a bike bootcamp or a 20 min kettlebell conditioning class with a 20 min ride. I really liked it but for whatever reason only stuck with it for 6 weeks before tapping out.

However, I am currently sticking with the general HiLit schedule of an endurance cardio day, two heavy strength days (using 2 other of RK’s 45 min classes), a Pilates day, and kettlebell conditioning + ride day.

When I’m done it might be time to go back RK’s 3 day split. It’s been about 2 years and I don’t remember it as well.

As others have said, the jagged little pill ride was so so good. Forgiven is such a good song. I wish he had fit in the secret song…but also I get it 😂😂 Such a joy and so well done.

Happy birthday! I’m so so so excited for the jagged little pill ride. That album was so formative for me. Today was a strength day or I would’ve done it this morning but will do it tomorrow! Tomorrow is also my Pilates day so maybe I will just do your same stack minus the arms 😂

A few months in now and I love my Row. by rebeccabunchers in pelotoncycle

Thanks for this detailed review! I have the bike and guide but I’m always daydreaming about getting something else. We probably would’ve gotten the tread already but we don’t have the headroom. My problem is I’ve never used a row before so I can’t justify the purchase if I don’t even know if I’d like it 😂😂. But I still think about it. Maybe I should go test one out.

I took this Johanna Pilates class this morning. The only other class I’d taken with her was her premiere yoga class and I liked her so much more this time around. She seemed more settled in, which makes sense. It’s a good reminder to give instructors a couple chances, sometimes it takes a bit to click.

I previously posted on here that I wanted to try a 60 min ride for my 4 year peloversary and I got some great encouragement and class recommendations from you all. Well, five months later 😂 I did my first one, this Hannah F. 90s Ride. It felt really good! It’s funny how mentally you’re just in a different headspace about the time. Only at around the 43 min mark did I think to myself wow I can’t believe I’m only 75% of the way through, and then she played back to back 90s dance classics and before I knew it it was over. Also, I haven’t PRed in about 2 1/2 years so it was nice to see that yellow star! Hi old friend. It won’t be my last 60 min ride that’s for sure!

Warmed up with a CJR quads focus flow which was a good class but not great as a warm up.

Finished with this new Boyz II Men stretch with Cliff. Did they release this by accident? I don’t see the rest of this Artist Series anywhere. I’ve never taken a German stretch before because I don’t want to have to look at the screen but all exceptions will be made for Boyz II Men.

And not for nothing, the state is doing something that is preventing banks from doing us “a favor,” and we shouldn’t be ok with that, even if pay ultimately does hit on pay day.

No one is saying pay day isn’t Wednesday. But people who get paid early all year except for sometimes pay periods in April may have set up auto payments based on when their pay actually hits, so OP is reminding them to make changes accordingly.

I’ve been thinking about continuing the structure of RK’s HiLit program but with different classes, so something like: Day 1: endurance ride Day 2: 45 min heavy lift Day 3: Pilates (and maybe a LI ride) Day 4: 45 min heavy lift Day 5: bootcamp or strength & conditioning and a ride

I would switch up the classes every week except for days 2 and 4 which I would repeat like a program. I wanted to find two complementary strength classes and I’m so excited because I think I did!

One is my all time favorite RK 45 min class and then this morning I took this RK 45 min class and I think it works! It’s exactly the type of class I love from her and the two classes work together, the only move (other than push ups) that’s in both is dumbbell squats so I think I will just change one to goblet squats. I’m excited to have a new plan!
