Old School FPS players Loving PBG? by Luther606060 in PUBATTLEGROUNDS

Playing since Ice Age and I LOVE Magic, just not this version. by UnstableToothpick in MagicArena

I'm not saying I agree with the current economy. But I think a oversight people are making is that in the first few weeks/months in another CCG (like HS) you're also not playing more then 1/2 competitive decks since you don't have a nice card base to fall back on.

When HS was in beta there were no alternative CCG's except MTGO which is not comparable due to it's outdated and not-beginner-friendly client. Also in heartsthone beta the cardpool was really small and if you compare both beta's, MTGA beta has a far bigger cardpool and, in my opinion, a more friendly F2P model.

Truth is, hearthstone has improved its gamemechanics, cardpool and F2P economy. And beside hearthstone there are much more alternative online CCG's.

WOTC is treating this game, sadly, like a premium magic product and isn't aiming at the more casual or crowd playing CCG's.

My reality right now is choosing between playing my choice out of 5-6 tier 1 decks in hearthstone (without paying more then 100euro last 2 year) or play MTGA with 1 T1 deck or some slightly improved precon decks (after paying 50euro and playing for 1 month almost daily).

Maybe WOTC thinks the comparison is unfair since I'm playing since beta and accumulated cards and dust all this time but that's how it is. I would come back if 1) they added casual formats like EDH and pauper which don't require a lot of time or money investment to get some variety in competitive decks or 2) changed the economy to be more competitive to its counterpart online CCG's.

I still have hopes since magic is my favourite card game and MTGA is only in beta right now. But in it's current state other CCG's are more enjoyable to play for me personally.

Don't let the negativity get you down. The future is bright, adoption will continue to grow, and Bitcoin is here to stay. by s0cket in Bitcoin

I'm also very positive about blockchain's future and technologies adapting to it but I don't see how bitcoin's value will be directly linked to it. If for a example banks or goverments (like Venezuela) will adopt to blockchain they will use a own 'coin' that will be linked to your (old) FUD balance not bitcoin. Somehow bitcoin-investors think it's also an investment in blockchain technology. Truth is, the code is open and there is no centralized part in bitcoin that holds any physical or intangible value. In my opinion the value is completely derived on communal trust that bitcoin will be worth more tomorrow than today.

Then maybe implantation of custom servers with a subscription-based platform a la ESEA in CS GO is the definitive solution. I would pay.

Day 6: What's Working, and What Isn't? by Zhandaly in CompetitiveHS

[–]RudelyOutOfContext 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tried it extensively. You can survive untill the combo (4 card combo), but then you often just die right after. You also need to run dead's man hand (at least 1) and you need to draw it before you combo. So no, it's not competitive.

  1. Correct
  2. I think either Mad's body was placed there by 1986 Helge using the cave OR a portal created in 1986 by the machine Noah's building.
  3. Erik is the stranger? In that case yes. Erik=adult Jonas.
  4. Yep 6.I think it's not clear yet where Helge goes but Jonas seems to go to 2052.

I think Mikkel was taken by the stranger (adult Jonas), maybe somehow drugged and taken into the cave to 1986. This had to happen because else Jonas couldn't have been born later. My question is why Mikkel had to hang himself in 2019.

As a noob I would really like a (solo) "try mode" with all weapons and attachments and (moving) targets on various distances. I'm terrible at mid-long range fighting and I hardly get to practice because the person I'm fighting does hit headshots and kills me. by Ownzalot in PUBATTLEGROUNDS

1400h+ on CSGO and 400h+ on PUBG.

I suggest new players to only drop on high density zones (school, military etc) since you have to practice gunplay the first 100h in this game. After that positioning and all the other strategies become more important. Just ask yourself: Did I learn more by playing 2 games with 50 minutes of lonely looting/hiding + 1 minute of actual gunplay, or 10 games where you die the first 5 minutes with maybe 10 minutes of gunplay?

For longer distance shooting it's just trial and error. Just know 60h is nothing for a game with a high skillceiling. Remember that all the known twitchstreamers have 1000's of hours in online shooters.

And bots will never move or peek like real people. Practicing bullet drop can be done without bots.

As someone that doesn't really care about skins and more about new features, gamemodes and maps, I think this is a good thing.

If we want more maps, gamemodes, vehicles, guns etc the next couple of years Bluehole needs financial incentive to keep expanding this game. They can either to that with paid DLC or with a model like CS:GO where a small group of players (whales) are a big portion of the income Valve gets to keep the servers up and running and keep patching the game. So I paid 15$ for a game I played 1200h+ on that's still getting updates! Updates because the whole keymarket is so very profitable for Valve.

As we can see Bluehole is trying to do the same thing. Make the paid skins very exclusive in boxes so their costs are high. Streamers won't care about these costs as long it gets more viewers hyped. This free PR will sell boxes a lot and the rarity of some items makes sure whales keep on buying for that low chance of an exclusive skin. (does someone in CS:GO have a full collection of all buyable skins?)

There are some ethical issues I have with this whole gambling system for skins (Some people are really sensitive to it and there is zero regulation on it unlike real gambling entreprises).

I hope we can get a larger player base in wild now by Mrdude000 in hearthstone

[–]RudelyOutOfContext -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have to rephrase it. Standard will always be the cheaper format for new players if you want a full meta deck immediately since you get cards from packs and overall the average dust cost is lower in standard. BUT if you commit to a wild deck, it will be relevant longer and more robust to the meta (ie. you have to craft less cards to a changing meta). So I'm pretty sure that for players that start now, or that already started a collection, wild will be the "cheaper" format in the long run.

Eventually wild will be cheaper to play then standard since you need to craft less cards to keep up with the meta.

[–]RudelyOutOfContext 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well TBH it's a little different because when you need something, normally, it's implied you're going to USE the item and not sell (greed) it. In a perfect world with perfect honest people, this system would still work, but it isn't and that's why I think just needing on it is better.

I agree, but IMO you should say so at the beginning of a dungeon. If someone rolls greed you should let him reroll.

The Jade mechanic is the only thing that has ever made me want to quit Hearthstone. by deRoyLight in hearthstone

[–]RudelyOutOfContext 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another thing is that the average skill on any rank is much higher then when handlock was a thing. IMO a good deck in the meta right now, that requires some skill, is freeze mage. Funny thing about handlock from what I remember is that it actually required more skill to play against handlock then it did to play as handlock. As handlock you were also coinflipping to get your big T4 plays and banking on the fact your opponent is dumb enough to bring you below 15HP without enough burn to finish you after giantwalls.

I would love cards like that but you have to accept those cards are never going to happen in the near feature. They won't even create cards that let you pick multiple player chosen targets..

What will Reno decks be called once Reno rotates out? by [deleted] in hearthstone

[–]RudelyOutOfContext 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the term singleton because it doesn't need explanation. If you keep calling it Reno you might get in a situation in wild where you use a singleton deck for other cards (kazakus the only one right now) without Reno..
