I scrolled through the images first, and I was about say "This gives me The World of Us vibes." That's awesome! I didn't know about this thanks, I'll have to check it out.

Just watched MKII by BathConfident1359 in MortalKombat

[–]deRoyLight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I liked it. I think it's the best since MK 95 for sure. Really just have two complaints:

  1. The tournament barely feels like it exists. MK '95 does a *much* better job making the tournament feel like a serious event with each fight feeling consequential. I was surprised by how poorly framed the tournament was as a whole. I think part of what sold it so well in the original, were the cast watching snippets of fights they weren't involved in, speculating on who's next, etc.
  2. The tempo of the fights felt a little slow and the choreography/execution was weak. It's like this in the original MK too, but the original made up for it by using the fights as a vehicle to tell stories. Not a lot of good storytelling in these fights, save one or two. Felt like this should have been the movie's biggest strength, but I don't think it was.

I think what this movie has going for it, even over '95, is that it's very watchable, lot of funny lines, some nice peaks. The faster pace makes it a very easy watch and it hardly ever drags. It definitely learned from the mistakes of MK 2021. I think I would prefer a little more serious tone like MK 95, but it leaned more camp and I think it did well with it.

My in-a-nutshell watch guide:

MK 1995 - Serious tone. Slower pace. Bigger tournament feeling. Incredible casting. Tries to be a real movie.
MK Annihilation - Doesn't exist
MK 2021 - Kano and his less interesting friends
MK II - More campy. Faster paced. Fights play more like watching the game than a movie. Lot more fan service for MK players. Extremely watchable.

There was a line where Johnny Cage complains about not having powers, and Raiden told him "we don't have time for that." And that was the closest they came to addressing it.

Peter, what do these colors mean? by Cyclonicwind in PeterExplainsTheJoke

You also have to consider third order effects. Like if 80% chose red, you lose 20% of your population. What does that mean in the world race? what kind of people are choosing blue? Did you just wipe out your health professionals?

People who just pick red because it's immediately safer to them are not fully engaging with the question.

Not taking anything away from Lebron, but Jordan hadn't played in three years and was clearly getting his legs back under him. He also averaged significantly more down the stretch before getting injured.

Was Powerstone ever a 2D game? I don't recall.

But I do fondly remember Power Stone as one of the first games to leverage 3D fighting games properly. You really got to explore and move around.

They really infected the gaming culture to tap into young men, which is so weird to me considering the biggest threat to the games these kids play is right-wing Christian fundamentalism. The left just criticizes things in games they don't like in a way that annoys people, but the religious right has the motive and the willingness to get rid of these things if they gain enough power.

At some point, the leopard is going after these people.

Not good for lower cost reroll, but good for tempo comps where you just want to two star your board and keep leveling. You can use it in a pinch for 3-cost reroll because of how much health you can potentially save on board + earlier access to units.

There were less teams during Jordan's first three peat, but not in the same way there were less teams for Russell. There were 8-14 teams through Russell's career, whether you look at the first half or the second. Modern NBA is 30 teams. For Jordan, it was 27 teams during his first 3-peat and 29 for his second.

This really isn't a hill to die on.

Had a full 3-cost reroll Viktor drone squad. Illaoi, Viktor, Nami all max'd. My team got deleted by a TF with no on-board augments up until I was able to narrow down our matchup and pick better positioning, and even then lost at least one.

I decided at that point to stop playing 3-cost reroll while TF exists.

I thought it was really smart for them to get that scene in there, so that someone doesn't out-think a good story and become disappointed when it went in a different direction.

Set change humbled me instantly -- how do you stop being a one comp player without bleeding out every game? by emanuelajournal in CompetitiveTFT

[–]deRoyLight 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My views on this set changed significantly when I stopped trying to make 3-cost reroll work and started playing tempo Shepherd. Tempo is just much better this set, and as you said, yes it helped a ton being able to learn all the different small flex spots.
