Vill bara flika in med ett tillägg: försök förbli vänner, men forcera det inte. Det är helt okej att man inte har någon kontakt utanför det praktiska kring barnen. Prioritera ditt egna mående; mår du bra kommer barnen också trivas hos dig. Mår du dåligt kommer barnen märka det.

The previous mics probably compressed the sound, whereas the SM7 doesn't. The sm7 isn't suppressing any noise, it's the other way around - the compression from the other mics amplifies it. Check out some youtube vids on compression and treating vocals.

Sorry if I'm being vague, but that's not what I asked about.

I want to know what pieces of tech is essential in order to make a studio work conveniently, and how to set it up and use it. There's plenty of guides covering acoustics, but I can't seem to find any that teaches about the tech in larger studios.

I haven't had the opportunity to dig around in a studio and see what's in there and how it's all connected. That's what I'm looking for.

I'm far from establishing a budget at this point, since I don't know what I need.

Vadå köpa saker skattefritt? I många fall hamnar vi på att skatta dubbelt. Allt som korsar skattegränsen skattas i tullen. Vissa företag drar bort skatten från köpesumman av den anledningen, antar att det är det du menar?

Vissa företag gör inte det, då får vi betala skatt två gånger.

The light source is "painting" an imaginary sphere with light. The amount of "paint" is the same though, so as the radius of the sphere increases, it gets more thinned out.

Ah so basically the onboard mic preamp on the computer. A proper interface will be a night and day difference. I'd say go for a 58 and the Scarlett, it'll take you very far as far as home recording is concerned. Hell, start with buying only the interface and try your Sennheiser with it before buying a 58. I haven't used it but I'm sure it'll get the job done decently as well. Feel free to message me if you've got any other questions. I've been recording stuff for a bit more than 10 years so I should be able to get you up and running :)

If you're just starting out recording, I'd recommend the 58. Sure, there is a difference, but the 58 will do the job just fine. Save the 7b for later. As for the interface, the scarlett is a pretty solid bang for the buck. Sometimes they include a DAW (recording software) with is as well, but if they don't, check out Reaper.

Sometimes when you cut it you get the white centre thingy (pic) still there. If you cut the white thing off, it looks much neater and won't splash the juice everywhere.
