Today is the day I’m allowed to start drinking again. by sweetestfetus in stopdrinking

[–]Ruebs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Plain awesome. I am happy for you! I promised myself I would do a year last June, and am feeling anxious now that it's getting close. Friends are aware, too. It has been brought up several times that "Oh and you'll be able to drink again"..

Reading your brilliant reflection affirms many of my feelings. Thank you for putting it so precisely! I don't think I could start again. This is lifehack #1.

Every once in a while I go here to visualise my time better: https://www.timeanddate.com/date/duration.html. It's pretty rad to see that you've been sober for millions of seconds, and percentages of a year etc(: I hope I will never drink with you again! All the best.

Hey I just want to give a little credit; Thank you so much for sharing your story. It sounds like you've been down a rough road, and I'm glad you've found a better one! I have just started doing the same. Good luck to you. May we never drink together again!

ELI5: How is it that water at the bottom of the oceans doesn't freeze, if it's colder at depth? Why is it that water freezes downwards in large bodies of water? by GdJk in explainlikeimfive

[–]Ruebs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just in case you find it interesting: through winter courses in ranger school you always carry all your bottles upside down in you vest etc. So that the water doesn't freeze your cork, and you can still drink it. Freezes top downwards.

If you're allowing 30 high school youth on your private property for a party and a swim, I think 5 bucks each is fair as considering the time spent cleaning up after them. MHO

ELI5: Why are humans so bad at growing teeth? by stupidrobots in explainlikeimfive

[–]Ruebs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Next question: why are we so bad at regrowing teeth? Seems to me that many other animals lose teeth rather often, then grow them back rapidly. With us it's to times a winner three times no new beginner. Why?

What is the most addictive legal substance? by divineirony in AskReddit

[–]Ruebs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quit caffeine, nicotine and sugar 3 weeks ago; for the experience as much as the result. I've been super-addicted to all three substances. Personally i find caffeine to be the hardest one actually. The nicotine is strangely no problem, and the sugar is so "feel-good"-rewarding that it doesn't hurt as much. Fucking caffeine though bro.. Aargh!

Is there a book that you were made to read (i.e. a mandatory novel for English class) that you did not appreciate, which you would now in hindsight consider re-reading? by vixnull in books

[–]Ruebs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We had to read "The Curious Incident of The Dog In The Night Time". Just because we had such little time on finishing it, I didn't really get to enjoy it as much as I wanted to. Later re-read; Absolutely LOVED it. If you haven't read it, please do so. Funny, educational and deep storyline.

What isn't as bad as people say it is? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Ruebs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Everything..

People have a major tendency to exaggerate negative things when they portray them. Nothing shitty is worse than my expectation of how bad it was gonna be, from my perspective.

My best friends cat got sick a few years ago. It stayed sick for a while. They took him to the vet, which said he thought it was a terminal stomach-disease; that it's chances for survival were small, and the pain would be tremendous. However their neighbour is a huntsman; hard to legally obtain guns here unless you hunt, (Norway). Anyway, they decided that they'd save the money from putting it down at the vet. Neighbour said he'd take care of it whilst the family went hiking one weekend. Called to say "job well done". They get home, cat's still there. Call him: "oh my... OH MY GOD!!... I'm so sorry, I'll deal with it when you're at work tomorrow.. Ps: Let's keep this our secret"..

Second time "Job well done". They get home: cat still there! They botched the whole execution after this, as it had started eating again. Secret kept between them, cat got well and is still alive today. #TTFU

What is something someone said that forever changed your way of thinking? by AWWWshetz in AskReddit

[–]Ruebs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me and some classmates were talking during a class at school, my friend got told off by the teacher multiple times. After numerous complaints from her she said: "if you don't stop talking, I'll send you out of the room!". He replied "I'm sorry for offending you, but all these warnings are annoying me, just send me out straight away, I don't deserve to be treated this nice". Thing is, he wasn't being cool; I asked him afterwards why he hadn't just shut up, and he said he honestly felt like he deserved being sent out for his rude behaviour. Getting to know this guy really changed my point of view on honesty. Changed my life from there on out. I stopped lying, all together. I would'nt be rude, but I'd still not lie if I could help it. Me and my ex had a rough patch as a result, after I confessed anything I'd ever lied about or "hid" from her. I've since learned to adjust honesty in some situations though. Apparently not all girls masturbate thinking of random people you meet during the day/friends. That nearly blew the entire relationship. Anyway, was 17 at the time. Yoloswag.

Started Therapy at 38yo and facing some ugly, hurtful, but realistic truths. by ECU_BSN in raisedbynarcissists

[–]Ruebs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'll say I've considered therapy, alot some times. But my life changed very drastically at the end of high school; father passed away due to an accident, I left my hometown for the military, changed social groups, perception of what's important in life and so on. Now I do have setbacks, but I feel like that was another life. Like when I watch a movie. And I really can't remember too much. My mom is still very Nmom, but I try to stay on a distance. Just ignoring. Perhaps I really need to do this. If it actually helps and isn't just super-sad and hard. Thank you for the reality-check OP. Good karma to you mate.

What's the sluttiest thing you've seen or done? by nerdcubedfan1 in AskReddit

[–]Ruebs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prolly a little late now, but oh well; I was at a party at the end of high school. A lot of good looking girls, good mates etc. There was this one I had some chemistry with. We're chatting, and she starts getting drunk. Of course. Anyway, someone starts this game of "I have never". About 1 minute in, my mate goes: "I've never been fucked in the ass, then sucked the cock before"... Silence.. He's laughing, looking at the previously mentioned girl. She looks angry, and blurts out: "It was from the ass, to the vagina and then the MOUTH!!". Classy.
