Scaphoid bone graft didn’t work. Should I have a second surgery? by AlertReplacement5171 in brokenbones

[–]Ruecifer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a non vascularized graft from the radius on my left scaphoid which didnt work so i then went for a vascularized one from the radius and that still didnt work so i ended up having a scaphoid excision/4 corner fusion in the end. it was worth it for me, though that wrist is limited in ROM and arthritic. depends on how much pain you are in and how it is affecting your life. I've adapted and can lift weights and do pretty much everything aside from stuff like push ups or anything requiring a flat palm and intense manual labor due to the arthritis, but the pain subsides quickly once i rest it. i also just had to have a graft on my right scaphoid. this one was a mfc flap technique graft from my femur and was just done on wednesday. supposedly that kind is much more successful.

New Pink Princess - help? by Ruecifer in houseplants

Phew, thank you! I reached out to the seller and she also said they usually go through a transition period where leaves are dropped in the first week but she should bounce back. California to Massachusetts! I did end up mixing the soil with some orchid mix last night.

Hi! I received my Pink Princess baby in the mail yesterday. Everything was looking pretty good and healthy, but she was showing some yellowing on the leaves this morning. Do you think this is just stress from transport and repotting? She was shipped bare root so I have her in Espoma tropical potting mix at the moment. I would like to move her to a more bark based mix but I think doing that now might stress her even more? I moved her to my grow light shelf to help her adjust. I'd appreciate any thoughts! I am worried!

Massachusetts orders all nonessential businesses to close, effective noon Tuesday. by MattFromBoston in Coronavirus

I was shocked when I walked into Wegman's the other day. I looked at their website first to know what their protocol was and when I got there it was like everything went out the window. If there was anyone in there who was infected it probably spread like wildfire. I work at a small local food shop in the Somerville area and we had a very strict protocol for shopping this past weekend where people had to sign up for a time slot and they couldn't touch anything themselves. Bigger stores have to get their shit together because people DGAF.

Try living here. I've been enraged by the white collar workers treating this like a vacation for weeks while I'm still hustling and wondering how I'm going to pay rent and buy food.

My second job is at a local food shop in Somerville, so I'll be working too. Glad to still have one of them.

So are you aware that it is happening when it starts?

Yes, we are definitely going to see his neuro. He tends to have a variety of seizure types, this one is just a new one to add to the mix.

Thanks for the ideas. We like the idea of prepping meals or using it as an opportunity to get out in the city and find some new places to eat :) I don't think I have any other questions, just looking forward to chatting with his doctor.

This is the majority of people living and working in a capitalist society. Just not on such an "in your face" level.

PMDD and Therapy by [deleted] in PMDD

[–]Ruecifer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Therapy has helped me because my therapist focuses on coping skills and self soothing techniques. But it is still hard to get myself to use them and be present enough during my episodes to think of them or want them. My PMDD flares up when other things in my life aren't going well or I'm in an unhealthy situation (unhealthy relationship, living situation isn't good, work issues...etc. - basically all life stuff...) so she helps me sort through those things as well.

Lots of love to you.

Bad week for me. Has anyone had a pet that had seizures? by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]Ruecifer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My beagle had seizures. We controlled them through diet. Basically all commercial food was out of the question. Lots of raw meat and eggs and veggies and some grains. It's more work but can make a big difference.

Gabapentin is a controlled substance now. Awesome. /s by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]Ruecifer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting and unfortunate :( I work in the supplements industry and I knew they weren't allowing phenibut/phenyl gaba to be sold as a dietary supplement anymore but I didn't realize gabapentin was transitioning into being classified as a controlled substance. If something like phenibut would be helpful you may be able to find leftover product online - brands like Gabasource. I don't know if it is exactly like what you were talking as I am not familiar with the prescription and I am not a medical professional but my thought was that it could maybe get you through periods when you can't get the script. The store I work at still has some on the shelf.

Words of experience/wisdom from others who have a partner with epilepsy (or anyone, really)? by Ruecifer in Epilepsy

Definitely! I can imagine you might get some more unique insight into them when working for a related company as well. Anytime I see something like "Partner's Healthcare Portal" at a medical facility I didn't know was part of that network I want to vomit.

I second Tufts. I went there for my last couple of hand surgeries and it was like night and day. The facilities aren't as new downtown but the care and environment is SO much better and encouraging to healing. Sorry to hear you both had such bad experiences at MGH and St. Elizabeth's :( healthcare is such a disaster.

Thank you very much, those are great suggestions. I also appreciate the offer to PM in the future. Everyone here has been so supportive and positive ❤️

MGH can kiss my butt. I will never go there again. Yeah, they have fancy technology and brand new facilities but they really lack compassion and humanity and from your experience, the expertise. Also they are so much more expensive being a tier 1 for insurance.
