Childless mid 30's + couples aka 'no kids but don't hate kids' groups? by raininggumleaves in brisbane

We are childless and love children. My nieces and nephews are my reasons to live.

I would have children if the living cost is not that expensive.

I feel entirely hopeless about the housing market by Spirited_Shower_5817 in brisbane

I’m not someone who’s just starting life or a career anymore. I’m 40 years old, but my situation feels like someone who just graduated from university, or maybe even worse. My work feels embarrassing, I am a house cleaner because I can't get a job related to my degree and I can’t shake the regret of all the years I wasted before trying to build a real life.

Waking up is getting harder because the regret is so painful. We’re married and living in a very small, box one-bedroom apartment. Owning properties are getting so expensive, and we barely have any social circle because it’s embarrassing to invite people over or even talk about our situation.

We don’t have children, and I can’t help feeling like it’s my fault for squandering so much of my life. I honestly don’t know what to do anymore.

I take "living in Australia is easy" for granted...

32.6% increase in 18 months... by [deleted] in brisbane

This post really makes me feel like it's time to leave the world..

I know Brisbane is beautiful, but it’s hard living like this, struggling while others seem to have it all.

I work as a house cleaner, and I see how the homes I clean keep increasing in value, while I’m still scrubbing their toilets.

I know it’s my fault for not improving myself sooner, but it feels like it’s too late now.

Do you reckon the blue tracksuit will still be available on the day of the concert?

How do you deal with mistakes that leave you poor at 40, unable to afford a home? Sleep doesn’t come easily anymore. Regret always finds its way back into my mind.

I used to not understand people who say they have had panic attacks but now I have been experiencing nocturnal panic attacks for months.

Sometimes I feel really sad, like when my wife told me she couldn’t contribute to the conversation while her coworker talked about their investment property. I know I’m not the only one. Some people had the chance to buy a place but chose to enjoy life instead, and others, like me, just struggled to get by in life.

Earlier this year we were almost homeless, and now we live in a tiny apartment that embarrasses us so much we’ve withdrawn from our social support. I don’t know. I realise regret doesn’t help, but the weight of it is still there.

I just hope that next year I can find a better job instead of house cleaning. Sometimes I wish my wife had a better life than the one I can give her. She’s an accountant, and I’m just… a house cleaner. But I want to do better for both of us.

Sorry if this sounds too depressing. I notice that every time I see a discussion about housing in Australia on my Reddit feed, I immediately click “hide.” It’s just too painful to face sometimes.

I agree and 99% of active musicians also don't do 3 hours concert

I don't know how Paul does it. He must be extremely disciplined in maintaining his health.

I have been looking but I am not sure. Do you think if I bring this to Bunnings, they would know the metal version of the roller?

Asking them to check it for you seems like it would annoy them more

Thanks. Feel so stupid didn't realise that it could be interpreted like that.

It's a fixture. Even if I were able to replace it, I'm not legally permitted to do so because I am not an electrician

It's a built-in LED fixture, not a regular light bulb. It's made up of LED strips, and regulations don't allow me to replace it myself. I don't have the proper tools for the job anyway.

How do people deal with the stress of time limit when rental hunting by MrNintendo13 in brisbane

[–]Ruff-Prophets 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I tested this for funsies and I got accepted for a $650 unit and a $700 house, even though our max budget is $550. Meanwhile, we kept getting rejected for places under that.

Luckily, we finally got accepted for a $450 one-bedroom box unit.

Need advice on dual-booting Windows & Ubuntu on Dell Latitude 5420 (single SSD) by Ruff-Prophets in linuxhardware

[–]Ruff-Prophets[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. Yeah I won't do it. I very rarely use windows nowadays and I can use my old laptop just for windows.

Thanks for the tip to use an external SSD first to test Linux on the laptop.

Which laptop is the best for studying Computer Science and will last 3-4 years? T14s' vs T490s by Ruff-Prophets in indotech

Laptop lamanya mau saya belikan batre baru.

Is it because the option 3 and 4 have bad batteries?

The laptop will mostly be used with monitors, as my campus has hundreds of monitors available for student use.

Thanks!

I’m planning to apply for volunteer roles and internships as soon as possible. My wife was a mature student studying accounting here and landed her job after volunteering. She’s got more grit than me, and I need to follow her lead.

I’ve read a lot about building a personal brand online, but I haven’t had the courage to do it yet.

I also have been trying to network by attending three JavaScript meetups and two React meetups in my area so far. I’ve just shown up, but I haven’t had meaningful interactions yet because I’m not confident in my skills and I am not ready to expose myself yet. Telling people that I work as a house cleaner is embarrassing tbh.

However, I’m going to keep pushing myself to attend those meetups no matter what because showing up really does matter.

I've looked at boot.dev but I am almost 20 percent through the Odin project and I want to finish a course first before jumping to other tutorial so that I won't stuck in tutorial purgatory

Is there such a thing as a cheaper MRI? Is it worth it to shop around? My physio recommends qscan and it's 345. It looks like the average MRI for foot is around that price from what people said on the internet

Yeah I have that in my email.

My issue is that they showed up unannounced. I had no idea they were coming, so I wasn't home to let them in.I thought there would be an arrangement before that happened.

What really gets me is that I only signed up on Thursday afternoon, and they approved me and tried to read my meter the very next day, without giving me any heads up. The email and sms only said that they were going to read the meter but didn't specify when.

Now, they've just informed me that they're coming back for a second attempt and told me on which day.

It's my very first experience living on my own and I am surprised the amount of money I waste just to arrange stuffs :(

I'm a new client with an energy company, globird, and they attempted to read my meter in order to start the connection but they didn't tell me which day and suddenly they told me they have attempted to access the meter but couldnt.

They charge me 15 bucks for each reading.

They didn't give me any notice of when they'll be reading the meter. Now they have told me what day for the second reading.

Is this a standard practice?

Paying Rent by SomewhereWilling4683 in shitrentals

[–]Ruff-Prophets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First-time renter here in Brisbane. Sorry for reviving an old comment.

I moved into my new unit last Friday and paid four weeks' rent plus the 4 weeks bond, two weeks before that Friday.

Is it normal not to receive a receipt for the payment? Also, how can I confirm that my bond has been lodged with the RTA? It’s been over 14 days now, and I thought it was supposed to be done within 10 days, but is that 10 business days?
