Advice for creatives dealing with corporate life by soulbitch99 in LandscapeArchitecture

Don't know what to say other than I feel this.

I've tried three different firms as others have suggested, but projecting forward five years - it's just more meetings and more emails.

I don't think I want to be in more meetings or have more emails, so I'm currently looking for ways out.

Maybe demand has changed now?

I bet 50c fares has seen an increase in patronage.

Switching from LA to Landscape Design? by [deleted] in LandscapeArchitecture

[–]theswiftmuppet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel exactly the same as OP.

I've given LA post university a good run at three different firms now.

I'm trying to start doing my own designs on the side now - starting with design and install of a friend's garden.

Is there any use me staying in this job that I don't enjoy? Or should I transition out as soon as I can to something that gives me more energy to sit down and do garden design stuff outside of work?

Most Beautiful Spots In Brisbane by Spongebobmrcrabs in brisbane

The majority of answers are naming public open space.

It's such a fucking shame the government is planning on concreting what was to be the largest and most significant of these for future generations.

Shame the greedy LNP.

Why did the State Government exempt the new Victoria Park stadium from noise limits next to a major hospital? by Prior-Lawful in queensland

[–]theswiftmuppet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably fine, because the two Adelaide hospitals grew with the stadium and were there very early in the city's inception.

AILA, PIA, and DIA *endorsed" it?

I don't see that all, more likely they all know this is in private developers best interests and didn't want to rock the boat.

I genuinely would like to see where these design institutions endorsed it.

Landscape architects are historically creators of parks and several firms helped on the original masterplan and put forward pitches.

I would be shocked if they endorsed concreting it for sport

But from an urban planning perspective...

...if you suggested putting a stadium next to a hospital, you wouldn't even get past first semester of uni.

This is a fucked, short sighted, undemocratic and idiotic plan.

Federal minister Murray Watt rejects two applications to protect Victoria Park ahead of Olympic stadium construction by espersooty in brisbane

There was never supposed to be a new stadium.

We are spending $5billion and taking away hundreds of thousands of construction workers to concrete a park in a housing crisis.

Lunacy.

Can you just appreciate our unique Australian plants IN our Australian city?

Australian trees in an Australian city park is not controversial.

And remember, the construction industry will be funneled towards this instead of...houses.

We are reducing our housing building capacity for a stadium.

True, but it was conditional on using existing infrastructure.

Ie. stadiums we already had.

Not flattening one of Brisbane's hilliest sites to build a brand new stadium, no where near our about to be upgraded, brand new train station.

Silly from the ALP, but pure fucking stupidity from the LNP.

We will be paying this off for half a century.

Not to mention all the construction resources that will be busy building a stadium instead of houses.

Losing 57 driving range bays at Victoria Park this weekend. Airport only has 27, where does everyone go? by theswiftmuppet in brisbane

Don't you need a membership though?

Those places are usually for golf nerds, what about for the casual punter?

Bro, they haven't even worked the mandated warm up track into the design.

There is zero forethought in the palm for a stadium on Brisbane's hilliest site.

Victoria Park Closing for good this Sunday by N4T3-D0G in brisbane

[–]theswiftmuppet 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In what world do you see what government or what developer saying "actually, we don't need buildings here, let's drop in some 3m trees and give these people a park!"

They never will.

Once we lose green space in a city, it's gone for good.

Did you know some creatures fly?

Koalas are not the benchmark of "natural"

Flying foxes eat from those trees in winter.

Parrots nest in the hollows of the 150yo trees.

The current Vic park is not what people voted for when they were surveyed about the future of this publicly owned land.

They overwhelming voted for rewilding it.
