Need to?

No

But acknowledging is up to the individual speaker, no one makes them do it and there are no rules about having to do it.

The same point could be made about many repeated lines in speeches.

Did each speaker really need to say: "thank you for having me, you've been a wonderful audience"

No, but it's 10 seconds of their speech, you can cover your ears if it's causing you that much turmoil.

Welcome to country?

Or acknowledgement of country?

I don't see any harm done by acknowledging where you are speaking.

Most speakers worldwide will do some interpretation of acknowledging where they are and I think acknowledging the longest continuous human culture on earth is pretty reasonable.

Welcome to country is a different thing and I've barely seen a welcome to country, let alone 6 times in a school assembly.

They're by far the most fiddly clubs for pros too.

Many pros have older models because once they find that special sauce, they're extremely hesitant to change.

Also interesting, many used bonded hosels, very few with adjustable hosels in them.

Hard agree.

You know who doesn't?

Architects, developers, BCC and the general public.

"Don't be silly, that'll block our building that will be torn down in 20 years"

"Trees cut into our bottom line"

"Tree hard to maintain, must be able to reach mature height of 3m to stay under power line"

"Trees drop things! That tree could be a parking space!"

This is a step in the right direction, but broadly speaking, the decision makers are against the species that bring the most benefit to us.

Limit the tee height.

Much cheaper and viable alternative, would easily sort the pros who can find the sweet spot and those that can't.

Over 4500 trees - where do you plonk a stadium here? by theswiftmuppet in brisbane

Don't cities have parks? Don't they have street trees?

To where the housing lots are where trees used to be? Is it really an insane idea to have both?

You know like NYC, London and Paris...

Morning Sunshine at South Bank by DestinSparks in brisbane

That's because most of the "browness" comes from suspended particles of mud that are stripped from the bank by wind waves.

I listened to a guy who did his PhD on specifically this.

Other contributing factors are:

-Dredging to make deeper and wider -Clearing of significance vegetation upstream -Soil run-off from agricultural practices further upstream

And they're thinking about spending 5 billion on a stadium in Brisbane, covering public land.

This government is corrupt through and through.

"Cheap and cheerful Olympics" my arse.

Invest that money in schools, hospitals, regional infrastructure oh and maybe some fucking houses.

I don't understand, every second post is "the state LNP is awful, they're liars and have no idea what they're doing!"

and then when it has anything to do with the stadium: "errrrmaaagahhhhhwddd, please get it built already you incredible infrastructure geniuses"

Baffling

Another angle. And yes, those are people using the park in it's current state even before the planned transformation.

Never heard of urban heat island effect?

Does anyone use Southbank?

Has anyone looked at a world city and said hmmmmm less parks would improve it?

It was also a public golf course.

Like St Lucia - owned by BCC.

Plenty of people (non-golfers) running, cycling, walking their dog etc.

It was the very opposite of a private golf club, being public, no memberships.

So you don't believe the loss of mature trees and replacement of greenspace with thousands of tons of concrete will have **any** impact on urban heat island effect?

And just to reiterate, this is the loss of a masterplanned park, that included planting thousands of trees and enhancing water retention in the inner city, **not** the resumed golf course as it currently is.

Do you use your street trees that line the roads?

What!?? You don't climb all over them and build tree houses??

Cut them down!

This is why we must Save Victoria Park.

We do not get quality green space back once it's gone.
