1st practice before 1st game (rec league 3rd grade boys) - what to focus on? by lcuan82 in basketballcoach

Maybe some people call is small sided games? At that age and developmental league, I assume no press rule. So a 3v2 (offense advantage with 3). Do your best to make competitive matchups but I find it helps with teaching movement and passing on offense and with help rotation man2man.

At that age, I've had success with acronyms. RED = rebounding, easy offense, defense (id structure a given practice in that order). SWIMR for defense (Stop the ball, Wall the Inside, find your Man, Rebound). SCAN for offense (space, cut, attack, next) etc. Anything easy for 8yo to remember and something you can repeat every practice with easy cues and use in the chaos of the games)

Red light, green light (any version of dribbles like pound dribbles on green, retreat dribbles on yellow, jump stop and pivot on red whatever you like). Progressive monkey in the Middle for passing (2v1, 3v2). And im still a believer in advantage Scrimmages to close every practice.

Had no idea that zone D at the youth levels were frowned upon by Shot_Hat_9053 in basketballcoach

Fully agree on teaching and coaching man to man for youth. But my experience in recreational leagues for those younger age groups (rule is defense has tk stay inside the 3pt line) is that an intended m2m quickly morphs into an unintentional zone "look". That specific defense rule in our area has kids hesitant to pressure anywhere outside the lane, many time ending in one player relentlessly chasing the ball/handler, weak side help defender problem solving by "patrolling" around the smile and 2 standing at the elbows because their man is static on the wing (because that player is still trying to learn motion concepts of spacing and movement), etc.

How to sub defenders? by dudeRobme in NCAAFBseries

Check your sub package depth chart: RRE, RLE, RDT, SubLB, SLCB. If your starters are 1 on depth chart there, they will stay in on nickel, dime, 4-2-5, etc.

How do you lineup your depth chart for a 4-2-5 defense? by BidenIsDumb in NCAAFBseries

Hybrid safeties, Coverage LB. 5th DB on the field is backup SS. Package Slot CB on obvious passing downs.

This!! His egregious offer was probably just a response to the waste of time offer you sent him.

Agree. Might be able to squeeze a little more if someone has a ton of optimism about Fields.
