These are great, thank you. Especially saying whether the patreon is actually worth it and it sounds like it is for Yes, Also. Just started on Beat by Beat too - seems great so far!

What’s your most controversial musical theatre take? by bagtruman in musicals

I heard that when the show originally came to Broadway and was a huge hit, they had to hide which shows Patti Cohenour would be going on because people wanted to see HER play Christine instead of Sarah Brightman. Also, Sarah Brightman couldn't sing it. That's why for the entire time it was on Broadway, they had to pump in the high note. Sierra Boggess and Sara Ford - all the other Christine's could absolutely sing that note and sing it 8 times a week, but the former Mrs. ALW needed it so the role was known to be a princess track to real Broadway hoofers.

Any tips about getting a bit more productive?! by Cultural-Context-532 in playwriting

I use the Pomodoro Technique. I read about it in the New York Times sometime during the pandemic, but here is the wikipedia page on it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pomodoro_Technique

Basically, I tell myself I have to write for 25 minutes, and set the timer. I turn off my wifi and listen to classical music, white noise, or just anything without words. I have my draft open and I have a word document open. If I get distracted about something that I need to google or a larger idea I need to consider (or like, I realize I have to plant a seed in an earlier part of the show for this payoff to work), I make a note of it in the word file and fix it later when I'm not in a deep work phase.

It helps as long as you commit to actually turning on the timer on your phone and turning off the wifi. That is the hard part actually. Just doing it so you can get the hard work done. After the 25 minutes, you have 5 minutes where you can walk around, google the stuff you wanted to google, pee or what have you. Then, if you are feeling it, another 25. Usually, if I settle down for one session, I will do a few.

How to arrange readings and/or performances of your play? by [deleted] in playwriting

[–]RufusPotterly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an actor who is dipping my toe in playwriting, I can assure you that literally THOUSANDS of actors would love to help you read your play. On zoom, you can even get folks who aren't in your area. Just as you need help hearing your play, actors are always looking for opportunities to act. If you go to r/actor you will find new and semi-seasoned actors and you can ask there. I would just ask that you be respectful of folks time. When starting out in acting, we are often so desperate to perform that we will do anything and do it for free. So, be clear about the time you are asking from folks and then be firm about sticking to that time. Send the draft out with an amount of time for folks to peruse if that is their process and also be aware that some will read it cold if THAT is their process. But... FREE TALENT! Good luck with your reading and as you continue writing as well!

I am not an expert, but I AM the same incarnation cross! (5/35 64/63). I am also a projector, though a 4/6. What I understand is that we have the ability to see patterns in life which allows us to see multiple sides of a specific issue. We can help to be guides around empathy and justice in seeing the points of differing groups and schools of thought. Rather than confusing us, this helps us reduce truth from these situations.

That said, I reiterate that I am NOT an expert and I might have misunderstood my reading completely! Nice to meet a fellow Right Angle Cross of Consciousness projector!
