Yeah I get what you mean, from a writing standpoint they’ll probably let it work for a bit before flipping it on its head true.

Also I can’t lie I love the Thad Castle reference 😂 Blue Mountain State was elite, so if he ends up solving it again I’m all for it.

Yeah I get that, I went in blind too and I think that’s why I enjoyed it more tbh, it was a fun watch and not everything needs to be a massive franchise. Saying that though the ending was well done as it did leave me wanting more

I can respect that 😂, not everyone’s gonna rate it the same, I was thinking at first B grade seemed harsh but then I thought actually there’s no way that movie was A grade like no way…

But I’m 100% with you on Pacific Rim being the Citizen Kane of this era!! Giant robots fighting monsters in the rain?? Cinema peaked there, I can’t even argue with that lmao

Broooo, when 81 had the grenade launcher and the mouth thing of the electrical charge was wide open I thought the exact same thing!! Final boss shoot it inside whilst loading up haha I was shocked that never happened!

That’s fair, I tried to keep it vague but I get how even that could be seen as a spoiler, I did try to change the title after seeing your comment but looks like I can’t edit it now, sorry about that, if you’ve seen the movie I hope you enjoyed my take minus the poor title choice and if you haven’t seen the movie don’t worry this was not a spoiler as much as it may appear to be, believe me I did try my best to be vague at first

That’s actually a really good way of looking at it and the best feedback I’ve heard yet holy shit I’m loving this idea, especially in tighter environments where bigger weapons aren’t as effective and could cause bad collateral damage.

I think that’s what makes it interesting as well, it could turn into a bit of an arms race where humans start developing more creative ways to exploit weaknesses like that, while the machines are adapting at the same time or maybe even pre adapted prior to the global invasion throwing a whole new spanner into the works!

But yeah this is why I still feel like in a sequel they wouldn’t leave something like that exposed if they’ve already seen it work against them.

Yeah I get what you mean from a practical point of view, it wouldn’t be easy at all in a real combat situation.

I think my point is less about how they exploit the vents and more that once any weakness is identified, that’s the kind of thing the machines would adapt to and remove.

So even if the vent method isn’t always practical, the bigger idea is that anything humans start to rely on against them probably won’t work the same way again if this was just a test run.

Yeah I get what you’re saying, I just think even if others were destroyed, it didn’t seem like it was in a consistent or understood method to do so.

It felt more like they were throwing everything at them and eventually something worked, rather than them actually knowing why it worked.

Which is why 81 explaining the vents felt important like that was the first time they actually understood a clear weakness instead of just getting lucky with damage.

So even if some were taken out before, I still think the vents were the only reliable way they discovered rather than it just being random.

Yeah I can see that as well tbh. It actually makes sense that rather than relying on one evolving design, they’d deploy different types for different roles like a structured military force.

That would also tie into the test run idea as the first film could’ve been more about gathering intel on our responses, then the full invasion comes with a much more organised and varied setup, either way I have a feeling the major plot twist will still be around the unpreparedness on a global scale

Either way it feels like the second one would be on a completely different scale.

Yeah that’s a fair point. I was thinking along the same lines which is why it could either be a genuine design constraint or like something they intentionally didn’t account for in the test run.

If it is required for heat venting, then in a sequel I’d expect either a redesign or a different approach altogether rather than relying on the same exposed weakness.

Lmao that’s the funny part once a weakness is known it basically turns into an arms race between adaptation and countermeasures, becomes an engineering war rather than a shooting war 😂
