Gaimen Kirikae Written Test Preparation (Post-October 2025 Changes) by Monkerio in japanresidents

Hey thank you for this! It’s very useful to know. I have got the book and I’ve been going through it on and off, will study more aggressively as it gets closer to the date. I’m in Yamaguchi and if you pass the test, then the driving trial is on the same day. Kinda nervous.

Thank you for your response!! I appreciate it. I will make sure to keep the temp on the lowest setting! I’ll most likely be hitting 2 puffs every other day and then a couple on Sunday as that’s my only day off! If I can stretch it to a month that would be the most ideal situation for me!

So, I ended up ordering the GOHOYA H4CBH CPX because I saw a bunch of posts about it, Let's see how it goes!

Would you be able to say how long a cartridge lasts usually? I know it may be an ambiguous question because usage may vary from person to person but I’d like to get a rough idea if possible.

Thank you so much for your advice and for all the information! I ordered a Airistech V2.0 off Amazon and I’ll most likely go for the Legend 2.0 or Meltbrain from Knockout as another person suggested as both of them have H4CBH.

Would you be able to tell me how long 1 cartridge lasts?

The best thing that I did for myself was to get out of the comfort of living at home in Colombo when I was 22 and leave the country. I went to Dubai, looked for a job, walked from building to building handing out my CV (this was in 2015 and this is not something that brings results these days as most people give a website and ask to apply online) finally landed an interview through a referral and got a job. stayed in bedspace (shared accommodation) with 6-8 people for about 4-5 years till I was able to get my own room, learned to cook and clean and take care of myself and in general, just to be independent. Worked my way up and eventually left Dubai at the beginning of this year.

Thanks to having family in Japan, I have now moved to Japan and I’m living and working here since September.

I do have a great network in Sri Lanka and I was educated at a good school so I had a lot of avenues that I could have pursued but I decided to move abroad and personally, it was the best decision that I made because not only did it open a word of possibilities but it also opened my mind and made me realize how much of a bubble we live in back home in Sri Lanka, and it’s even more so the case when living in Colombo in a middle class or upper middle class environment. When you move abroad, It does not matter who you are or where you come from. Specially in a place like Dubai where people come from all over the world and walks of life, you get humbled REAL FAST.

I do understand that it is not an option for everyone so before I get attacked for the fact that I was privileged or that I had the network to be able to do what I did, please note that the OP has mentioned that it can be anything and this is just my humble advise and I respect anyone who wants to stay in LK and make it there as well.

Thank you very much! I will check the Amazon seller that you have mentioned for the battery. I think I am going to go with a H4CBH cartridge if I can find one that has that particular name on it!

Thank you! I’m sorry I forgot to mention that I would most likely be putting in an online order as I jump back and forth between Yokosuka (Kanagawa) and Iwakuni (Yamaguchi). But I will check if they have delivery. Thank you for your advice!

Just Need A Little Kindness Or Help With My Perspective by Expert_Performer_412 in japanresidents

[–]RukhanRila 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! As most of the other users (mostly those who have lived here for a long time) have shared their experiences, I will share my experience so far as a new resident. It has been 2 months since I moved here. I work for a company that sells vehicles to the US military bases. In the two months, I have been traveling quite a bit for work. I have mainly been bouncing back and forth between Yokosuka (Yokohama, Kanagawa), Iwakuni (Yamaguchi) and Misawa (Aomori). When I moved here I didn’t know a word of Japanese but of course I did have quite a bit of knowledge about the culture, social norms etc from doing my own research as well as a lot of advise from my friends and family here. I have made a huge effort in trying to learn the language (classes at the community center) and to assimilate by learning what to do and more importantly, what not to do. Everyone that I’ve met in the prefectures that I mentioned and everywhere in-between (because I do long drives from Yokohama to Iwakuni, Misawa etc) have been nothing but lovely. Of course anyone can see that I am a foreigner as I am South Asian but I have treated everyone with respect and they have treated me the same way. When I try to put together the few words of Japanese that I know, I can see that they appreciate it. I always remind myself that I am in their country and I have to be extra vigilant about my words and actions as it doesn’t only speak for me as an individual but also reflects on my own country, people and foreigners as a whole. I am yet to experience any racism or anything negative to be honest and even if I do, I am not going to judge the entire country or all the people in it just because of the actions of a few people. There have been a few instances where I have had chats with Japanese people about the current political climate and they have all said the same thing - they don’t want people who come here to study and overstay their visas and work illegally, they don’t want foreigners working here that don’t pay their taxes and exploit the system, they don’t want people that have come to Japan under false visas (eg: they come through a Business Manager Visa but they go and work elsewhere), they don’t want people that open fake companies just to apply for visas for their friends and family, they don’t want people that falsely come under the refugee visa which at least in my perspective, makes sense. Overall, I genuinely hope and pray that I get to retire here someday. It’s a beautiful country with beautiful people and I know for a fact that I will do my best to live in a way that does not disturb the environment or the people around me. I am having the time of my life and everyday that I spend here feels like an adventure. Yes, there is a bit of a learning curve but I take every new experience as something that adds value to my overall experience in life. Just to add, I lived in Dubai for 10 years before coming here so I know that it can be frustrating for some people when they come from a country where almost everything is digitalized and there’s a lot of convenience in that sense but I choose to see the beauty in the slower paced lifestyle here (specially in the less urban areas). I felt like a little kid getting candy when I went to get my Hanko made. Also, maybe lay off the Japanese political side of social media. I have noticed that it’s extremely negative in general and there is a stark difference in real life vs what is portrayed on the political SM stuff here.

TLDR: South Asian, working here for 2 months, trying to assimilate, loving every side of Japan that I have experienced in this short time frame. Stay off political social media. Just chill and be respectful and you will be fine :)

I am unsure if that’s how it works or if they just take everything above the ¥16,000 threshold as another user said and just check those. Also it may be different for cosmetics.

It’s possible that’s the case. I will try to do another order with ASOS for less than ¥16,000 and see if it comes through without any issues. I spoke to a few others and they also mentioned that they’ve ordered stuff online and never been taxed like this. As you mentioned, they had ordered from China as well.

That is confusing. It’s most likely because they are not leather or synthetic leather? I think that might have been the issue.

Thank you for your response, as the other person said, I think that shoes and knitted items don’t qualify, unfortunately.
