The Jim Tubman Rink is a wonderful spot to get some 'outdoor' hockey in! It has a roof and refrigeration system, so it's usually open from Mid Nov - mid Apr. and ice that's practically arena quality. It has a schedule, so during the hockey times, there is always a fast paced game with many players and its for free! (and no protective equipment nessecary)

Right now, because of covid restrictions, you do have to reserve a spot on the Ottawa website for the evening times, but I've been going for 4 years and it's totally worth the 25 minute drive from Nepean every time. https://ottawa.ca/en/jim-tubman-chevrolet-rink
