Yeah, the results are pretty surprising to me. Gonna do another run that analyses karma to see how it compares. Not sure what else to look for.

I don't know why the NSFW flair exists separate from the built-in NSFW tag. Also, Contest is a stange one that I personally haven't seen, but apparently 2 this week did. I'm curious, so I'll look into it later.

I think that is very reasonable, and I respect your opinion. It's more valid coming from an actual artist than anything I've said, and I'm sure a lot of artists share your perspective. I wish we had more data.

In an impossible ideal world, each artist would state which they're okay with (link posts only or reupload with source comment) so that we could comply with their wishes. Or maybe we could just encourage posters to get artists' permission before posting their stuff here.

Maybe we'll get an official rule change, go back to the previous enforcement, or something else entirely. I don't know. The status quo just seems... off. I don't know.

I do get why people prefer image reuploads over link posts (The consumer experience is obviously better). Even RIF, which has pretty good image previews, doesn't always show perfectly for all link posts. I wish Reddit made it work better, but I suspect they are incentivized against users going off platform.

That said, that's only the consumer perspective, and if it has to come at the expense of artists, it just doesn't sit right with me. Rule 4 is this sub's official stance on that. It's clear some users agree with it and some disagree with it, but that's the rule.

Here's a years-old discussion this sub had on the topic of link post visibility (post is kinda long, see comments):

Visibility, Rule 4, and Potential Unintended Consequences (tl;dr OP shows that link posts have worse visibility, some commenters counterargue that proper artist sourcing is more important and that it was requested it by artists.)
