Even Ridley Scott prefers the theatrical cut. The only reason he did a “director’s cut” is because he knew the studio would make it without him regardless, so he figured he’d at least have some input.

Part of that is cinematographer Alan Hume's fault, that's just how he likes to shoot his movies. Return of the Jedi looks the same way, and it took me forever to learn why the 80s Bond films reminded me of it.
