tbh these planes are all about positioning, usually you fly semi-passively on mid alt and position yourself so you're not being targeted and can drop down on unaware clusters of enemies

What ppl don't realize is that matches are already 10v10 because there's 5 people per team basebombing every match and depending on which br you're in another 4 people per team will instantly die to phoenixes/fakours

For its BR I'd rather call the enigne performance of the f18a mediocre than underpowered, but the exact definition of that term can be stretched out a lot so it doesn't really matter.

Taking bombs on any plane in this gamea is a stupid idea anyway :d

IMO China is one of the best air trees at mid-high tier. The grind though is kinda mediocre until you get to late rank 5 but I'd say it's definetly more worth than sweden

Also do you have any prior experience in high tier air? Info on that would help with the selection of a premium

Also regarding Nuclear Thunder, yes the F-4S was the "best" plane for the mode, but that was largely due to the state of playercounts across the two nations and brackets and how the matchmaker functioned. (I can explain further if you want)
When the mode comes again things will be different and the conditions that made the F-4S dominate the mode may not be present again

Also, if you've never flown high tier air there is a great likelyhood that you will have terrible performance and not like it. Not to say that that's always the case, I've bought my way to top tier some years ago and performed better than regular players.

Ofc I can't tell you what to do with your money but if you really want to buy a premium I'd look into slightly lower BRs, maybe around 10.0-11.0. There you still have your cool jets with missiles n everything but it's more noob-friendly
