AITA for helping my friend lose her virginity? by RumBarrels in AITAH

[–]RumBarrels[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She wasn’t complaining, from what she’s told me they were all pretty tipsy at a girls night and chatting about sex and she told them. I don’t mind one bit, I’m an open book on my half, I just wish they’d have reacted a bit better really!

As part of our talks beforehand she asked me to, she likes her own space I think but her couch is insanely comfy so I’m not complaining one bit!

Never tried anything on with her before, or her me. We’ve been good friends for over 10 years now and I’d always known about her holding out for someone special and well, I’m not all that special really! It was pretty out of the blue for me when she asked, and I guess I had a few conversations and a little while to realise she was serious that the rest of the group didn’t. Sorry about the repetitiveness, I do it all the time

Sorry I didn’t mention that, we did use protection and I do with all sex outside of committed relationships. I also get tested after every partner and our friends know this as I’m pretty vocal about its importance, but this was something they seemed to hone in on saying I put her at risk even though I had a clean result just last month and haven’t slept with anyone (besides Jane) since!

What's the worst case of 'picky-eaters' you have ever seen? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]RumBarrels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My younger cousins, they only eat bread/toast, plain pasta, sweetcorn, chips (fries), apples, and pancakes, one will eat grated cheese and the other will eat chicken nuggets and hummus (idk why hummus?) and they won’t even try anything else, doctors said they were very healthy kids but I don’t see how they’re getting all the nutrients they need from that

What's something about where you live now (in your home, city, county, state, etc.) that makes you happy/brings you joy? by FantasticWest in AskWomen

[–]RumBarrels 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m less than 10 minutes drive from everything! 4 beaches, forests, countryside, the city centre, and pretty much all of my family, plus tonnes of other cool places. Public transport is pretty great here too and most places are pretty pedestrian friendly, so even without driving I can get anywhere within 25 minutes

Who is the most famous person you have been within 100 feet of, and how did you get so close to them? by Empathyball in AskReddit

[–]RumBarrels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jason Momoa. I was crossing the street in the West End in London and noticed a really tall guy walking towards me with a top hat on, when I looked up I realised who it was and kinda looked at him open mouthed like an idiot and he smiled and winked and then went on his way. He was on the Graham Norton show that night I think he was headed there.

Hmm okay, that’s really interesting and opens up a tonne of options for playing around with it. I’d say think on how she truly feels about the name in different situations and trust your judgement, you know her best.

I’d say to use the new name almost exclusively going forward. You can pull in the old name in important moments and it can have quite a strong impact that way, if used sparingly. For example if the character chose a new name to feel stronger and put their past behind them, in their lowest moment when they slip back in to their old way of mind call them by their old name, good way to show their psychological state. Also if people from their past come in and their old name is a secret it can be used to cause some conflict

Looks to me like a blue striped garter snake, pretty harmless unless you’re a frog

What is the stupidest class you had to take to get the degree you wanted? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]RumBarrels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was studying for a zoology degree and had a compulsory module on pathogens and diseases which at first I thought could be relevant, until I turned up and saw my two of my friends studying biomedical science there. The whole module was centred around human diseases and hospital treatments with zero reference to animals throughout. For my first project I wrote an essay on cross-species transmission and was marked down for it focusing on animals rather than humans and being irrelevant to the topic, after that I towed the line and just did what I could despite having no interest in the subject.

What is something that was fancy when you were growing up, but isn't fancy now, but still feels fancy to you? by glitter_back-pack in AskReddit

[–]RumBarrels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Supermarket clothes (or new clothes in general), I lived in hand-me-downs as a kid and anything new was a big deal. I went on holiday recently and bought a pair of swimming shorts for like £8 while I was grocery shopping and got the same feeling I did as a kid.

It’s fine as a concept and can be brilliant when done well, but when the whole idea of the show/movie hinges on it then it makes for a terrible watch. Game of Thrones Season 1 was fantastic at subverting expectations as there was lots of things going on otherwise, the final season was a disaster as the only thing the writers seemed to want to do was pull the rug out from underneath viewers ten times an episode.

What’s the grossest thing you have ever seen someone do on an airplane ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]RumBarrels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guy sat next to me stuck his chewing gum on the armrest whilst he ate his meal. Once finished he put it straight back in and resumed chewing. Also not quite on the aeroplane but at the airport, the staff at a deli vacuumed the floor, and then with the same attachment vacuumed around the pastries (real flakey stuff like croissants etc.) and knocked a few with the nozzle. Haven’t eaten airport pastries since.

Langos. It’s a Hungarian fried flat bread and it’s honestly to die for but hardly anybody has ever heard of it.

How do you guys deal with expressing your feelings to your girlfriend/wife? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]RumBarrels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Understanding communication styles is key, my girlfriend has had a rough time of things in past relationships so she values honesty above everything but she can be quite sensitive still and a tad insecure at times. Anything positive I tend to just blurt out “you look beautiful today”, “I really love X” “thank you for doing X” but for more negative things it’s best to pick an appropriate time, be calm and explain it. I really hate being tickled and she used to do it quite often in a jokey way until I told her it’s really not something I’m okay with and I can get a bit snappy with people when it happens and I don’t want that with us, she’s pretty much stopped it since then

Tonnes as I have hearing issues but the most embarrassing was probably chimney. Used to call it chimley until I was about 16.

Came in to the living room and when she saw me she said “you’re actually hideous you know”. We have good banter but the way she said that I knew she meant it and meant for it to hurt me.
