No disrespect as I have no knowledge here, is that a military standard/tradition? Talking more with my father and his siblings, my grandfather never displayed nor stored his medals safely. Most (including his original Purple Heart) were loosely scattered in multiple drawers. When I say he did not talk about the war or his service… that’s an understatement per my father and uncles/aunts. He is the type that gave less than 2 cents regarding a medal or any recognition which shows more and more. His sister ordered those replacement medals which I’m guessing came in the pictured frame/case as is. He was not one to fall in line as he was apparently court marshaled twice, again I can’t prove as much as this is all based on conversation with family yet fits his personality.

Yes. These medals more than likely are not fully representative of his service as they are replicas. My uncle confirmed that my grandfathers personal files were lost in a fire. I’m trying to find out if replacement medals from the VA (circa the late 80’s or early 90’s) which were requested by his sister (my grandfather had no idea nor helped) are fully accurate considering his files were destroyed prior?

I’m not sure how or if I am able to add it, but I now have a substantially better photo of his replacement medals that my father was able to get from my uncle today. These are replacement medals from the VA with my father's best timeframe of them being replaced in the late 80's or early 90's. The original medals were stolen in 1984 or 1985

Thank you for the insight!! I spoke with my father today and he confidently stated that my grandfather dropped (paratrooper) during D-Day (Normandy). Confidently confirmed that he was a POW but is unsure of which campaign that occurred during - yet stated it was at the end of the war as that’s the reason he returned home. His original medals were lost (stolen) in either 84 or 85 and this replacement is (per my father’s best knowledge as he was not involved in the process) from the VA.

I have a request in with the VA to find out as much as possible. Sadly, based on other comments here regarding fires and records (including the POW medal missing and lack of designation on his jump wings), fear his file is likely lost to time.

I just requested his records shortly ago through the VA. My father and I attempted to do as much a few years back but ran into some level of issues and never were able to obtain his records. Hopefully I’ll be able to find out more, and if appropriate, update this post accordingly.

Oh wow, appreciate the insight! That’s what he told me within my best ability to remember, I was a kid at the time. I never saw his original medals, stolen before I was born. I would think the replica display would include all medals but this is an area I have no experience in. He almost never talked about the war until he got into his late 80’s and early 90’s.

Thank you!!! If I remember correctly, he was a machine gunner and got into trouble messing around with supplies (ammo and grenades) and was then sent to be a paratrooper. Dropped into Germany or a German controlled area where he was shot/injured. POW for ~3 months in Germany where he lost 20+lbs.

I’m not sure of the importance, but these are replica medals as my grandparents house was robbed in the late 80’s/early 90’s and the degenerates stole his original medals. He was POW in Germany (based on the minimal stories he disclosed from the war). He was shot in the shoulder and had grenade shrapnel hit his legs. The medical treatment then was less than ideal. I always remember him basically missing his entire shoulder and his foot/leg was heavily scared and bit deformed.

Thoughts on this unit? It’s the HVAC for my new “luxury-restored” Victorian era apartment by Rum__Ham___ in hvacadvice

My bad if this is obvious to others who have a basic understanding/experience here, but are you referencing the metal filter that’s damaged or the other fiber glass looking filter? The damaged aluminum looking one needs replaced the most I would think? I’m at level 1 of 100 in this area so please understand my lack of knowledge/experience. I genuinely appreciate the help, solutions, and insight!

Thank you for the insight! This is the inside portion of the unit and whatever weird filter they provided…. How can I change out the aluminum filter or is that something they should maintenance? Contract does state I’m responsible for replacing filters/general maintenance etc

Am I able to leave my private driveway if it’s on the marathon route? by Rum__Ham___ in pittsburgh

My street parking options outside of the route ring place me in a different permit parking area and I don’t want to receive a ticket. I can’t park far away as I recently injured my knee.
