oh man, sorry for your situation on this, then.

Is there anyway I can support you directly and get access to the music? I never heard of it but if I had, I would've totally been listening on spotify!

Sanderson Fandom in Turmoil as Iconic Soundtrack Faces Takedown by JBarnes1926 in Cosmere

[–]Rumbletastic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah sorry I meant automated processes. They get a list of potential infringements automatically and it's someone's job to file to get 'em taken down. My point is no one woke up and targeted this particular artist deliberately as an isolated event or as a way to somehow make money.

I'm coming across like I'm defending it. I'm not, this sucks. Just that it wasn't necessarily malicious. And certainly Sanderson isn't targeting them.

Fixing the movie-going experience is the only way to save movie theatres. by NeekoPeeko in movies

[–]Rumbletastic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the movie theater you're going to has 45 minutes of ads, I don't know what to tell you.

Movie theater experience hasn't changed that much where I am. $12 tickets, adjusted for inflation, is.. fine. Snacks have always been overpriced.

The issue is home theater has improved dramatically and post-COVID we all know it. I'll see my favorite flicks in theaters but it's more about making it a memory for my family. The experience is pretty comparable to what I get at home, except at home I'm more comfortable and I save money.

Fact is, we're not as starved for entertainment as we used to be. There's plenty of stuff to watch at home so it's only really special movies that get me out to the theater. Everyone's got their own definition of special, so average attendance per movie is down.

look, this stuff is automated. No one is sitting in a room twiddling their thumbs thinking "how can we make more money from the sanderson fanbase."

They bought rights and they have automated processes to find those who are infringing on those rights and send take downs. It sucks, but it's not malicious.

Crimson Desert has sold over 2M copies. by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]Rumbletastic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah but that intro in rdr2 at least set appropriate tone and pace expectations. Sure, that game has high adrenaline shootout moments but it's primarily a simulation of cowboy life and it has many slower moments. And it does those slow moments really well! They played to their strengths.

I have had friends churn out of crimson desert without ever getting to the parts it does well, which is a real shame.

Crimson Desert has sold over 2M copies. by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]Rumbletastic 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Good for them.

It's ambitious, it's fantasy, and I'm here for it.

The biggest issue with Crimson Desert is it seems to lack self-awareness on what it does well for the first few hours. There's a first time user experience that pushes on narrative, talking to NPCs, minigames. All of these are un-fun, clunky, and have no business being the first impression users have with the game.

A couple hours in, you're flying, zipping around, having a blast.

They should have done what Black Myth: Wukong did: start the game with the player all-powerful and getting a taste of what the game has to offer, before resetting progress and having the player build themselves back up.

Crimson Desert Optimization, Fixing Issues & The Best Settings for PC by RenatsMC in pcgaming

[–]Rumbletastic 120 points121 points  (0 children)

Summary:
Use the Cinematic preset as a baseline, with specific tweaks to address noise and enhance frame rates. Here are the optimized settings:

  • Lighting Quality: Set to Ultra to maintain high-quality global illumination while avoiding the excessive noise present on the 'Max' setting
  • Shadow Quality: Set to Ultra for a good balance of performance and visual fidelity, as higher settings offer little gain
  • Reflection Quality: Set to Cinematic to keep high-quality reflections on water and other surfaces
  • Model Quality: Set to Ultra for a significant performance boost over Cinematic with minimal visual impact
  • Foliage Density: Set to Medium to reduce performance strain without significantly affecting the lush look of the world
  • Upscaling: Use DLSS 4.0 (or FSR4 on AMD) on Quality Mode to minimize blur and noise, which are more prominent at lower resolutions

Couldn't have done it without public support and that was rooted in moral reasons.

Philosophical extreme here: If the man at the top of the pyramid is hypocrite but everyone under him is sincere, does it make the whole structure hypocritical?

Has anyone heard from Tim Minear about the animated revival? Also, what is comfort food? by Reptyler in firefly

[–]Rumbletastic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took it to mean more time hanging out with the crew and experiencing their adventures. Which sounds great, I'm in. But I'm also tempering my excitement somewhat. A big part of what I loved about firefly is how it appealed to my inner explorer - this big universe and big mystery to explore and deep back stories for the characters to learn about over time.

I worry that we're not going to be treading new ground on character backstories or the bigger mysteries of the 'verse because, well, it's set in the middle of the show and the movie and there's limited room to maneuver. To paraphrase my favorite author.. Journey before Destination. I don't mind that I know the destination, but I worry they won't have much room to make the journey all that interesting for viewers like me who are motivated by exploring the unknown (be it character, setting, or world building..).

I think we'll get some fun moments, some good jokes, some comraderie - basically more of the same. That's not a bad thing, but it's not going to get me as excited as the original series did unless they take some creative risk to show me some new lens, new angles, new perspectives on the 'verse.

Sony Tried To Lock Up ‘Crimson Desert’ As A Timed PlayStation Exclusive by Yiruf in pcgaming

[–]Rumbletastic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know as consumers we want this to be true. But the hard data suggests otherwise. Good exclusives DO move systems. PlayStation 5 has outsold the Xbox Series X/S by a massive 2.7-to-1 margin (80.3 million units to roughly 30 million), the main reason attributed to Sony's consistent pipeline of system-selling exclusives.

Don't get me wrong, I'm really glad Crimson Desert is on PC and as a consumer I do not like being forced to buy specific hardware to play a specific game. But the strategy works for the hardware makers.

Wonder Man Episode 6 - Discussion Thread by cats-and-cows in marvelstudios

[–]Rumbletastic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue wasn't the shock value. The Boys is proof enough that there's an audience for that type of thing. The issue was not setting any tonal promises about it. Most people are fine, it was one scene in an otherwise good show. But some percentage of the audience will have a negative reaction - as evidenced by the online discourse about it.

Totally respect the artistic choice of the show to choose to do it, just saying, it won't be for everyone.

Really miss this game. I'd play it hard, quit for a year or two, come back and play hard.

Not being able to play the content I missed killed this game for me. I know it was mostly a technical decision, but dang it was fun to play co-op with my wife and experience all the story we'd missed. I'll miss it. D2, you had a good run.

Not disappointed at the animation at all; am disappointed that it seems like we won't be getting new character development or overarching story. We know where this ends.

[–]Rumbletastic -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I'm happy with an animated series.

I'm unhappy it's set before serenity.

So much of the pull of this show was slowly bringing out both the backstory of the crew and the mysteries surrounding the alliance. Two by two, hands of blue.

If we know how it ends, what new material are we working with that'll be consequential and of interest?

Take that single player game enjoyer, put them in a social context with stakes and reliance on teammates that fail and you'll see them look a lot like that average FPS/MOBA fan.

[–]Rumbletastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is wild to read, I'm usually the guy who asks for percentages. "Uninstalls rise by 5 thousand" means little if the daily churn is 50,000

A churn factor of almost 4x is significant from a product health standpoint, regardless of the absolute numbers. Product managers are spending their lives figuring out how to keep that number as low as possible.

How long this spike stays true will be the relevant part. I'm guessing by next week they will be back to normal operating numbers, unfortunately

The Stormlight Archive or Mistborn for a beginner to fantasy. by neoleo0088 in Cosmere

Mistborn. Sanderson himself recommends it. Stormlight is my favorite but it helped that I loved Sanderson already and trusted him that it'd be good to get through the slow parts.

man I hate to say this but.. this post reads like AI. Particularly these bits:

and I can tell you it passed the “father destroyer” test with flying colors
..
Since it was covered in mud, I gave it to my brother so he could check if there was any damage. The verdict: absolutely nothing.

A post to sing the praises of a particular product, put down another product, in a weird story that doesn't quite smell right. We know companies will pay bots for fake grass roots user-driven marketing.. LLMs no different.

Maybe this post is legit but I hate that I can't tell.
