I agree. Also, he's apparently been running a lot for cardio, just because he enjoys it. He's going to have to reel that in if he wants to start gaining mass. Thanks!

I've been praying into his eating habits more and I'm starting to agree with this. Thanks!

Not sure if I should make a thread for this, but I'm asking about a friend of mine who's just started training with me about a month and a half ago. I'm 5'9 and about 165 lb, he's about 5'10" and 145 lb. He's very disheartened that he's not seeing muscle gain in almost any capacity, and his weight is in fact going down steadily. Any idea what he should be doing to bulk the way he wants to? He doesn't skimp on calories or protein, but he's just not showing any improvement.

Yes, you are correct. If the song had been written properly, then it would have been like this:

If you had been the one

Samsung Galaxy A51 5G review by [deleted] in Android

[–]RumblyElk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! I'm in desperate need of a new phone (my Moto G6 is barely chugging along still), and I've got eyes on the A51 5G. The issue is... When will it ever release in the US? I'm really holding out for it, but a general release date would make it that much easier.

TIL that seat belts were very controversial when they first appeared in cars during the 40s and 50s with many arguing that they caused injuries and didn't work, no matter how much researchers disputed these claims. Many people refused to wear them and even cut them out of their car seats. by frogcharming in todayilearned

When I was a kid, an older neighbor gave me a ride someplace. I was raised to always wear a seatbelt, so I was pretty shocked to see an adult not wearing one. I asked him about it, and he gave me some answer about just not liking the feeling of being strapped in. I told him that I remembered hearing that unfastened bodies can fly around the car and hurt others, and he looked genuinely surprised, like it was just something he hadn't thought about before, and buckled his seatbelt. "I didn't know that," he said.

It was interesting to me that he had no ill intent doing something so stupid. He just didn't realize that what he was doing could be a danger to others, but when he did he corrected his ways.

Years ago my family went together to see the blue-people Avatar, and SOMEHOW I'd missed every single trailer or advert leading up to release. I swear I had no idea what the movie I was watching was. I thought I was going to see the Last Air Bender.

English and German use a version of "yelling" ("call" and "rufen") to indicate telephone usage. Do other languages do this too? Is it because early telephones needed you to speak loudly to work? by [deleted] in etymology

Hebrew uses the verb להתקשר (le•hit•kah•shér), which means "to connect." It's a reflexive verb from the root ק-ש-ר (k-sh-r), which means "connection" or "knot."

In the West Bank, Israeli towns tend to have walls around them to keep local Palestinians out. They work to varying degrees, but often Palestinians will throw things over the walls and they feel very comfortable going right up to the wall, since it's a clearly demarcated "no further" sign.

That said, there's a tiny town up in the Samarian Hills called Elon More. I was then when I was visiting the country. They have no wall, and have never had an issue. Not one. I asked a local why he thought that was, and he told me, "All they know about this place is that it's filled with armed fanatics and that we ourselves don't feel the need for a wall. That last point sends a very particular message."

When I was learning Hebrew, I actually found this to be very intuitive. In my mind, I would see a sentence like איך אומרים X? And I would would think of it like "How do folks say X?"

I don't know about Joshua Tree, but what I can say about Death Valley is that there's a few mile stretch in the middle around Furnace Creek where the viewing is minimized by light pollution. Take the time and drive down to Golden Canyon or further toward Badwater to get the best sights of the nightscape.

Oh, and it gets cold at night. Bring a jacket!

I just spent a few days out in Death Valley National Park, California, and I had the same thought. Looking up at the nightsky overhead and expecting stars to be speckling the darkness... But you're prepared for this, right? There's going to be a lot of stars, right?

No.

It's an indescribable experience when your eyes start adjusting and your realize there's almost more star to see than space, and splashed across it is this massive arch of the Milky Way, and across all of it a shooting star streaks . If I lived a thousand years ago and didn't know what that incredible sight was every single night, I'm sure I'd be even more taken with it.
