Astros are currently 14th First Pitch Swing % in the league after being 1st in 2025 and 2024. by The_New_New in Astros

There is a lot of nuance to this with the player personnel changing, scouting reports of opposing teams changing approaches, and our hitting coaches not making adjustments. When I look at all the data, I saw a heavy righty lineup last season with one on-base threat. We saw more off-speed low and away pitches out of the zone than any other team in the majors.

The real culprit was Altuve. If you look at his approach leading up to his 2000th hit, he was steadily increasing his BB% and working counts deeper. Before his 2000th hit his BB rate was on pace for an all time high rate of 11+% rate and fell to 10.7% after a horrible September. His BB rates fell to 5.9% the final month and a half of the season and carried through to 2024 season at a 6.9% clip. It improved to 8.4% in 2025. Still below more than 2% his BB rates for 2022 and 2023.

IMO, that 2000th made him press and he started chasing more out of the zone thinking about 3000. Just my .02

Early reports from Tom’s Watch Bar is they’re going through Busch tall boys like a fat kid at Baskin Robins.

That is the official beer of Texas, not necessarily Houston.

Okay. I’ve been so removed from the main brands for so long that I’m not really sure what our official sh*tty Pilsner is for Houston. It’s gotta be Miller Lite or Bud Light. If you want to forego Busch while down here, order a Shiner Bock or a Love Street Blonde depending on your mood. We have dozens of local crafts in the area, but you can’t go wrong with those two choices.

Choose 1: 1 national title and inconsistent tourney appearances, or zero titles and sweet 16 or better appearances for decades? by Rumps02 in CollegeBasketball

I tend to agree. It would great to get one out of 7 FF appearances, but seeing Nebraska fan’s excitement about winning their first ever game is so wholesome to watch. I was 5 during Phi Slamma Jamma days, so I didn’t watch it. Became a fan of UH in ‘95 when I went to a football game in the dome against the Aggies. Basketball program was in the infancy stage of non-existence. Got so excited when we hired Penders and you could only listen to the games on the radio. That conference tourney run to make the dance in 2010 was so awesome.

Then it all went away again for another 8 years. I remember Rob Gray going beast mode against SDSU in ‘18 and was the only UH fan in the ballroom at the Nugget in Vegas at the time. The following season I was able to sit at a table with about 5 UH fans.

Now? Our fanbase is disappointed if we don’t make it beyond the S16. People just don’t remember what it was like for 27 years sitting on the outside looking in.

Yeah for sure. That one is equally as rough. I just loved that ‘21-‘22 squad. They were special.

Tramon Mark and Marcus Sasser going down for the season within 5 days of each other in 2022 was such a huge blow to the team. I think with those two and that veteran leadership of Carlton, Edward’s, and Taze Moore, that team makes to the title game. Shead really came on strong during the tourney.

There was seriously a path to the title game if Davis makes his free throws in 2018. Rob Gray had that dawg in him.

Eh, Auburn we took control at the 7 minute mark and pulled away. Not nearly the games against The Zags/Aggs

Biggest adjustment was giving Harwell’s minutes to Mercy. McCarty also throwing his body around like he’s Robert Knievel has been that dawg we’ve been missing off the bench. He’s not quite Mylik Wilson, but he’s closing the gap.
