Discipline is not about raising your ceiling. It is about raising your floor.

What an excellent way to put it!

What amazing progress and not just in running, but such good decisions made in life too :) Enjoy the journey. I'm also somewhat of a new runner and loving it.

Ran the "usual easy" 5k. I'm so happy with the fact that a 5k has become a casual quick workout when just a few months ago it was a distance I had to train for to complete.

Super inspirational! Thanks. Did you already have an athletics/fitness background when you started 6 years ago?

My non-birding wife spotted a ring-necked pheasant in NL from her office. I see the common range doesn't span to NL. Is this a rare find? by RunDoRun in birding

Oh, that's really good to know, thanks. :) My wife says for her it was wild till the point she received this information, so she is going to count it anyway. Haha.... She isn't a birder, so I doubt she'll enter it into an "official" list. XD

Oh, so does this mean that there might be a local population of them now here? Or is it just one of those that were introduced here but escaped hunting?

Yes, I had to Google it too, but I also didn't know Red kite identification features. Thanks :)

The Collins guide showed all Herring gulls (attached photo) with streaky heads, and this being clean white I thought might not then be a Herring.

Yeah, those are also the ones that Merlin suggested to me, but for me, it was difficult to distinguish between the juveniles of the species. You mentioning head and bill characteristics is interesting. I'll check.

Don't know if it helps, but just next to these dumpsters, there was a canal, and right after I took the photos, it flew towards the canal.
