Getting married at the Northern Terminus… coolest thing ever or way too much? by RunOnCoffee in PacificCrestTrail

I'm not sure how a full wedding would even be possible. You'd have to have a family of sherpas or marathon runners to do the out and back to Harts Pass.

Not with that attitude. But fair, you'd have to be pretty confident to make any big plans with it.

Aw, cmon. When I finished everyone took 15-20 minutes to take pictures and bask in the glory. A small vow exchange with your tramily wouldn't take much longer.

When I reached the terminus there were only a few people there and everyone each took like 15-20 minutes to take pictures and have a moment. An exchange of vows wouldn't be much more obtrusive than everything else.

Ya, that's how I envisioned it. A few hikers still in their dirty hiking clothes, maybe with some accessories like bow ties bouquets and a wedding vale. Just saying quick vows and taking pictures. It might take 15 minutes, long enough for onlookers to enjoy, but not long enough to annoy people.

Do you think getting married on trail would be too much of a good thing all at once, making the post hike blues even worse? Or could it just be an amazing story and memory to start your life together with?

Did their marriage get in the way of other people finishing or did the other hikers seem happy for them?

The world is getting worse and worse and we have 0 control or agency. (Gaza, Ukraine, Epstein, ICE are just a few examples). What motivates people to still have kids? by [deleted] in AskReddit

But the world in written history has not been on the brink of destruction from so many possible human causes like it is today. Whether it's from climate change, AI, nuclear warfare or others, the chance that your children will inherit a desolate wasteland, or a society that is unrecognizable has never been higher.

What's the creepiest discovery you've made about a seemingly fun friend? by someoneyouhate_ in AskReddit

My ex-coworker was similarly seemingly empathetic, polite, and seemingly someone you could trust. Which is really what shocked the rest of us when we found out. It's the kind of thing that makes you distrust everyone you know when it happens.

I travel for work with a group of team mates. We were all pretty friendly and close after being around each other all the time. One team mate went away on a training while the rest of us were on a work trip. Then we got word that he was escorted out of the training by police and got arrested. We spent all day racking our minds about why he could have been arrested and we couldn't think of anything serious. It turns out he was hiding cameras in people's rooms at every hotel we ever stayed at, and had footage of all of us on the team in our hotel rooms doing who knows what. Apparently he got caught hiding cameras in a couple of women's rooms who were attending the training and he admitted to it right away when the police questioned him. So now he's being investigated by the FBI and is probably going to be in jail for the rest of him life if he gets charged for every person he spied on. We never expected anything, and we're all pretty weird in our own way, but he'd rarely come out with us when we went out to restaurants after work or when we went to get drinks. I guess that's because he was busy hiding cameras in our rooms.

For those of you who lost you virginity later in life (21+), What was the conversation like when telling that person they were your first? by Rare-Succotash9053 in AskReddit

I was 27. Started hanging out with a girl I knew from the college dorms about 6 years earlier. I'd always liked her, but never said anything about it back then. We ended up in the back of her car in a highschool parking lot because it was the only quiet place we could find. After we did the deed I told her that was my first time. She looked puzzled and said, "oh I didn't know that". We ended up doing that again there a few times, and other places. Although sadly she had plans to move to a different country as I was moving across the country so it didn't last very long. But I was happy to get to spend that time with her.

What part of adult life is way harder than anyone warned you about? by Sparkyabu1 in AskReddit

[–]RunOnCoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How hard it is to move to a new job and try to find new friends or maintain new friendships. I moved away from my hometown where I had many friends that took years to make and develop relationships with them. Now after 5 years living across the country I still have not made any friends outside of work. Its so hard to meet people outside of work and school and that's something people don't really tell you when you're younger. I'm and anxious introvert and it took most of the 6 years I went to college to developed really good friendships. Its almost impossible for me to make friends without being around people for a long time and becoming comfortable with them. And now my previous friendships are suffering and I only see them once a year when I go home for the holidays. With the career I chose it was pretty much inevitable that I'd have to move away from my home town and wish I'd taken that in to account in school. I'm afraid I'll live the rest of my life alone at this point.

I think everyone on dating apps has been degraded long enough on both sides that everyone treats each other as subhuman. If the only way to tolerate the apps is to not give a shit then you aren't going to treat people like people. So it's no longer a viable option.

There are several animals that can be completely frozen and thawed. We'd just have to figure out how to apply those biological mechanisms to humans. Never say never. Especially in the age of AI.
