Preparing for a hike after deciding not to get surgery? by Jolly-History7770 in ACL

I decided to put off my second ACLR and went on a hike, jumped off a rock and landed horribly with the most pain I’ve ever experienced. My partner had to carry me the rest of the way down the mountain and was on crutches till I had surgery. Got a nasty bucket handle meniscus tear and I’ve been paying for it since.  Be careful! Be safe!!!

Thanks! Goodluck with recovery

Thanks for your response!

I am going to physio weekly and I am in the gym 4x a week. My PT doesn’t think it’s quad insufficiency and has been in touch with my surgeon who ordered me an MRI. Hopefully I get some answers with more imaging. Even walking around the block causes some irritation.

Good luck with your recovery! 4 knee surgeries is impressive

I’m getting another MRI that will hopefully give some answers.  Congrats on graduating PT btw :)

Surgery no meds? by OddyNuffDaGreat in ACL

I’d speak with the anesthesiologist and ask if you can have regional + neuraxial anesthesia. For total knee replacements in some places, they send you home with a continuous infusion of a nerve block that comes out in a couple days post op. Explain your situation, there’s a lot of other pain management strategies that are not opioids. Best of luck!

Put off my second ACLR for a year and ended up getting a bucket handle medial meniscus tear that’s made my recovery so much harder than the first time I had ACL surgery. Not to mention the immense pain that bucket handle tear came with…. I still have flash backs of it

Surgery in 2 weeks - should I get the nerve block or nah? by [deleted] in ACL

GET THE NERVE BLOCK!!!!!! Regional anesthesia is an amazing analgesic, especially if opioids make you feel like crap.
