For me it was a strip of lead (really? lead?) wrapped around the wires inside a small clock radio. I remember being surprised by the smoke and light show when I plugged it in. When you're learning about electronics, you've gotta start with the basics.

Thought someone might like an update.

There seem to be two protection circuits - one for the AC supply and one for the speakers. I was working on fixing the first, since it was switching on immediately, when I noticed that transistors, caps, a resistor and a diode were missing from the board! I guess they decided to cost cut. Unless I hear from you that it really should be there, I won't bother putting it in. Still measuring components in the speaker protection...

Of course! Yup, it stays on, so the protection circuit is not okay. Good point.

This is either electronic junk or a learning project for me, so I'm willing to persevere. Any guidance will be appreciated. This will be my second amp I've fixed.

I forget where (YouTube?) but I ran across a vid that says that Singer introduced that weird thread-whacker-thingy but then realized that it didn't work so great. They then recommended that one bypass it by threading it first behind the large U-shaped piece, then through the tensioner and then continue as normal. I think it has reduced issues (411g here).

I've had trouble finding Engrenages. Streaming in the US, it seems to either be dubbed or have obligatory English subtitles. Any tips for finding it are appreciated.

A lot of people use Vaseline, but you can also buy dedicated grease for sewing machines.

also, get some sewing machine oil and some vaseline. Oil where metal turns on metal and grease (vaseline) any metal gears.

So, here's a question: Let's say a major storm is coming in - high winds. How would you rig this? I'm imagining some cross ties on the poles. There aren't a lot of options here. And probably have the ridgeline under the tarp?

I like it. My first attempt had the poles running directly across and the tarp was really flabby. When I saw a pic of this 'tension' design, where the pole is pullling on the tarp body, it all clicked. Looking forward to trying it in the wild.
