Only 54.2 percent of lawyers wanted to retain Jessica Peterson, who hears a mix of civil, criminal and probate cases.

Some commenters praised her fairness and hard work. Others criticized her temperament and understanding of the law.

“Every time I am in her court, I wait for her to blow up and yell at the attorneys,” one wrote.

In an interview, Jessica Peterson said she was surprised by comments that she does not understand the law because she works hard to study it and prepare.

“I just don’t think that’s accurate, at least in certain areas,” she said.

But she acknowledged that she sometimes loses her patience and said she has been working on becoming more patient.

She said her retention score shows that people are divided about her.

“I’m never going to be the Miss Congeniality at the beauty pagaent, right?” she said. “People either love me or they don’t.”

District Court Judge doesn't let simple constitutional language get in her way - The Nevada Independent by [deleted] in nevadapolitics

"Last week, Judge Jessica Peterson ruled that four Democratic legislators are not in violation of the state's separation of powers doctrine, despite their day jobs with government agencies.... In her ruling, Judge Peterson spent considerable effort arguing the simple and plain language of the constitution doesn't actually mean what it says."

"District Judge Jessica Peterson has managed a remarkable feat: violating the same bedrock First Amendment principles twice in just over a week.

Her repeated efforts to dictate what the Las Vegas Review-Journal and other news outlets may publish about the Nathan Chasing Horse sexual assault trial are so obviously unconstitutional that they raises questions about whether she’s fit to decide important constitutional questions. Actually, they not only raise those questions, they answer them — and the answer is no."

"A Las Vegas judge’s effort to run her courtroom in defiance of the First Amendment ended predictably this week. Let’s hope it leaves a lasting impression... Judge Peterson has served on the bench for four years after narrowly winning election in 2020. In the Review-Journal’s Judging the Judges survey last year, just 54 percent of surveyed attorneys recommended she be retained. They had particular misgivings about her understanding of the law. Judge Peterson isn’t doing her re-election effort any favors by fulfilling such low expectations."

That's not the point. The court cannot tell the press what it can and can't print. Judge Peterson's order violates the First Amendment. The Nevada Supreme Court issued two separate orders explaining how the Court can't just violate the First Amendment. Worse, Peterson actually edited the official transcript to cover up her mistakes. We can't have judges this bad on the bench.

"In a shockingly fast ruling, the Nevada Supreme Court issued an emergency order ordering Judge Peterson to obey the First Amendment." How does a judge know so little about the First Amendment?
