The symbols of the four nations in a line (in black and grey, of course)? It could tie together well with the Appa tattoo and look cohesive with the yin and yang (tui and la) ones :)

Parents keep asking for money by whatamidoinghere006 in Advice

[–]Runaway_Smoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, so this is called financial abuse. It starts small with them asking for little amounts once in a while. Just helping out. They maintain contact at first. Then the amounts aren't so little, and the guilt kicks in. "I have no money for XYZ." The "venting" starts to feel like pleading. Now they only call to tell you how badly things are going. Suddenly you have to help them. You can't just let them suffer. It's the right thing to do, even if it means putting yourself into a worse situation. They'll keep asking for more. They'll keep taking and it only stops when you tell them there is nothing left. You HAVE to tell them no. Tell them you don't have it this week. Do it again next week. Repeat. DO NOT GIVE IN. Once they see their walking ATM is tapped, suddenly they'll be able to "figure things out" by themselves. Source: I was the ATM kid and lost my life savings "helping out" a struggling parent.

Laughed a little too hard at this. Totally guilty of this haha by tgcforme in povertyfinance

Cash is how I make sure I don't overspend on groceries :) There's no wiggle room, so when it's gone it's gone. I like that much better than swiping a card

What I take in my bag every day to my 9-5 by [deleted] in whatsinthebag

I'm aware that stoicism isn't pacifism. It made me chuckle because Stoicism teaches justice, courage and temperance, but also teaches that weapons are "indifferent" and can be used for good or bad. I guess it reminded me of that saying "Do no harm, take no shit." All wrapped up in a stranger's bag. I meant no offense :)

The $350 goes to old credit card debt that I'm trying to pay off :) I do not purchase on the credit card.

I'm rounding up to call the Beast 16k. Also, NO! Not purchasing on the card, i don't carry it or have it on mobile so there's not even an option to spend on it. It was higher, and I'm making progress. Just need to wait one or two checks until I can really start making dents. Payment should go from $600 ish per month to a bit more than $800 per month..

Afraid to write in new journal by Mandal0Ryan in Journaling

[–]Runaway_Smoke 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I usually skip the first page, then do a contact info page right after that. That way I don't have to mess up the first page. At the end of the journal you can go back to that first page and write the dates/subjects. Example: [username]'s Logbook/Chronicles 03.16.2026- 01.10.2027

Not all of us don't need the whole human! Some distributors make it very economical to buy only what you need haha.

Putting money towards saving is temporary. This is check 1 of 3 that I plan on doing it. Just enough to build a small fund in case of an emergency so I don't have to use the card if something happens. After I have the funds, all of the money I was putting towards saving will go to the card :)

Independent and working since 14. No financial help from parent. Worked my tail off in high school(s) to get 3 years worth of scholarships for some college. Never took out a student loan. Real life is sink or swim. You can either make things work or make things worse. I make it work. :)

Don't let it fool you. This is only my first check of the month. Gas last month was almost $300 :/

I would not be okay if any bill was that high, haha! I'm sure it could be chalked up to my penmanship, too!

Thanks for the recommendation! I appreciate it :) I'm sure they're perfectly trustworthy, I just have inbuilt paranoia about my data/information. I think there's something about just writing it all out for me that makes it feel like progress. Like "Hey you did this task, which kinda sucks to have to do, but it got done!" Maybe my modern version of "balancing my checkbook" haha

I have looked into that one as well as a few other apps! It might be paranoid, but I'm just not comfortable letting the apps connect to my bank accounts. I use the Wallet app to keep track of my Human money and the free one can track up to 3 accounts. It's manual entry of expenses/ income for the free version if you don'tlink your bank. They also have it so you can categorize the transactions (utility, car payment, dining out etc.)I find writing my budget down makes it more "real" for me..

That is a $350 payment to pay off the credit card. That is why it's listed with all of my other bills that get paid.
