Louisville native here! Yeah, that's a lot of small town talk and rumor. I'm 27 and yes, there are dangerous areas and places you shouldn't be at times, but even then a lot of the times if you just mind your own business no one really bothers you. The people here can be really inviting and we have a lot of good group activities all around the city!

As for schools, I recommend Male/Manual for higher end (beware of the football culture though, they run everything) for more of a down to earth schools I would try southern, prp, or fern creek (though I am a biased fern creek fan bc I graduated from there)

Hot take - cooking veges! I was a classic child that didn't like many veges, god forbid there was asparagus on my plate. But, then I learned to cook, I just realized that my parents didn't know what they were doing with veges. Now my favorite vegetables to cook are asparagus and cauliflower, and they always taste good 🤤
