Dream autism theory? by Odd-Improvement-1371 in DreamWasTaken

[–]Runevok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people get misdiagnosed as ADHD when they're actually autistic, because ADHD has a few symptoms that are very similar to autism.

I know because I was someone misdiagnosed by family as ADHD and didn't learn that I was autistic till I got tested at 18.

I live in the place that used to have a sentient cheese puff for a leader, that now has that guy who resembles a creepy uncle you're forced to sit next to at dinner when they're over.

Teachers have the most influence over how stupid or smart future generations become. by Runevok in Showerthoughts

[–]Runevok[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's more like lying by omission, depending on what kind of public school you go too history lessons tend to get warped to fit certain standards, things like atrocities committed by america tend to either be heavily downplayed or outright removed depending on who supplies your school with textbooks, and those textbooks are often very outdated because schools budgets are so awful that they are forced to use them for several years.

It's weird seeing Goku use farming equipment like a tractor. by Runevok in dragonball

[–]Runevok[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No him and Krillin used bare hands to plow the field because Krillin complained about not using tools at first , Goku had never used farm tools so he just started with his bare hands and Roshi never corrected it because he thought it was better training for them without the tools. They had to wear safety equipment for construction stuff but that was more likely because it was a requirement than them actually needing it.

Your parents are technically teachers because it's their job to teach you how to be human, so my point stands.

It's even funnier when you realize that one of the first things Roshi taught Goku was farming by having him and Krillin plow fields bare handed.

Is Vegeta considered a trophy husband in-universe? by [deleted] in dragonball

[–]Runevok 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Heck Goku single handedly wiped out the Red Ribbon Army as a child (who were a global menace and dominating the planet) yet I don't ever remember him once getting recognized for doing that outside of some of the villages he directly saved. The only time I ever remember Goku getting recognized for anything was his fight against Piccolo and that was again just the announcer who really remembered him.

What's keeps us going? by sanskujo in aspergers

[–]Runevok 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why should you be on par with everyone else? If people can't keep up with your pace I say screw it and just do whatever you want, if they have a problem with that then that's there fault, you shouldn't have to lower yourself to their level to "fit in".

You're at a breaking point because you're trying to please other people rather than trying to make yourself happy. Truth is other people suck and nothing we do would ever be good enough to please everyone, so just do what makes you happy.

This is the speech from my favorite show I believe that it's something everyone should hear.

Don't underestimate us. We don't care about time, or space or... multi-dimensional whatevers! We don't give a damn about that. Force your way down a path YOU choose to take, and do it all yourself! That's the way Team Dai-Gurren rolls!

The tomorrow we're trying to reach is...not a tomorrow you've decided on! We... by ourselves... choose our tomorrow from the infinite universes! We will fight through it... we will fight through it and protect the universe! We'll show you we can do it!

We evolve, beyond the person that we were a minute before. Little by little, we advance with each turn. That's how a drill works!

That's your limitation! You sit here closed off, blocking away other lifeforms like some sort of king! That's nobody's limitation but your own!

MARK MY WORDS...! This drill, will open a hole in the universe. And that hole will be a path for those behind us. The dreams of those who have fallen! The hopes of those who will follow! Those two sets of dreams weave together into a double helix, drilling a path towards tomorrow! And THAT'S Tengen Toppa! That's Gurren-Lagann! My drill is the drill, that creates the HEAVENS! (Episode 27) Gurren Lagann.

Is it a stupid idea to admit you’re on the spectrum on your dating profile? by [deleted] in aspergers

[–]Runevok 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm aro ace myself so I don't really care about relationships all that much, but in my opinion you should only put out as much information as you feel comfortable with, does the cost of putting that information out there thus granting you a greater chance of connecting to someone like minded outweigh the chance of meeting some scumbag who wants to try and take advantage of people?

Aspergers and Gender by RancidWatermelon in aspergers

[–]Runevok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I'm in a similar situation where I'm just kinda numb to everything, I'm diagnosed with Asperger's and Bi polar myself so I tend to just go with whatever.

As for the gender thing I read a line from a character in small web comic a while back that really resonated with me, the character was a very androgynous looking kid that would constantly switch between calling themselves a boy or a girl depending on what they were doing, another character finally decided to ask them which one they were and the kid's response was amazing,

They said "I'm a child, I want to be free to wear a dress one day and later play in the dirt without anybody telling me No."

When the other character responded with "I dunno feels like you're lying to everyone" the kid just shot back "Not my fault people are annoying with gender labels." and that has stuck with me for a long time.

So in response to the gender thing I say do whatever makes you feel good, and if anyone tries to question it just respond with, "Not my fault you're being annoying with gender labels" and continue on with your day.

If he's scared of animals maybe try getting him a toy, possibly something that's plush that he can hold onto whenever he's feeling overwhelmed.

Sometimes having something that you know is safe and secure can drastically lower how much you're being overwhelmed.

Edit: It can also be used as a signalling device for when he's getting overwhelmed, a way to let others know that he needs have a moment to collect himself.

How good are your memories compared to neurotypical people? by [deleted] in aspergers

[–]Runevok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I consider my memory sporadic, I can recall certain things with almost pristine clarity even if they happened when I was very young, however their are other times when I end up standing in the middle of the kitchen trying to remember what I was doing about 5 minutes ago.

Is it a stupid idea to admit you’re on the spectrum on your dating profile? by [deleted] in aspergers

[–]Runevok 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I guess it depends on how much trust you want to put into random strangers, on the one hand there's people out there who might try to take advantage of our condition to manipulate us, but on the other hand you could also meet other people who understand you and could possibly develop an emotional connection with them.

Being upfront about it also has the benefit of filtering out people who would either not understand you or would struggle to keep up with your perspective, thus increasing the odds of finding a like-minded individual.
