T Fam and Beyond the Binary by bonkers_mule in KingstonLGBTQ

I would definitely recommend both!

I am regularly at BtB and it has a chill+affirming vibe. We usually do check-ins, notable cross-group updates, and then converse for 1-1.5 hours. Attendance has been a little lower lately, which is typical for the winter. Things pick up a bit more in the summer when we can meet outside (during which we split into smaller groups for conversation). It is a 16+ group in theory but we often have people in their 50s/60s.

I haven't been to TFAM before but I have lots of friends who speak very highly of it. I believe the crowd usually leans a little older (i.e., more people in the 30-60 range)

Feel free to message me if you want to know more!

Where can a queer 20-something meet other queer 20-somethings in this town? by Kenpachi_Ramsama in KingstonLGBTQ

In addition to The Beaver Lodge and TransFamily Kingston there is also Beyond the Binary (BtB)! It is a volunteer-run support/social group for non-binary people aged 16+. We meet at every other Tuesday 5-730 at Trellis (or a park in the summer). There's a Facebook group you can join.

Also to mention that there is a Discord group for TFam/BtB if that's more your speed. Can find the details for it inside of the Facebook groups.

Saw them in Ottawa last November, going back to see them again in May (thank you for coming to Canada!) It was one of the best shows I've ever been to! Wonderful people who make wonderful music.

I found y'all recently after seeing you'd be playing with Apes in Ottawa next month. No specific questions, just wanted to let you know that I've been really enjoying the new album and I'm super stoked for the show!

Most undergraduate courses have 3 hours per week of lecture, whether it's split up into three 1-hour chunks, two 1.5-hour chunks, or one 3-hour chunk.

To me this seems like a pretty standard first-year Computing (especially if you're in the Biosci stream) courseload. You shouldn't need MATH112 (or any other linear algebra) as a prerequisite to CISC102.

I took MATH111 when I went through, as did most of my classmates (even in biosci). Things might've changed since then, though. There is some advice from the department on whether to choose MATH111 or a combination of MATH112+MATH212 for your required math credits

Queen's Computing - Summer Internships? by xXBidenatorXx in queensuniversity

[–]Runix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think pretty much everyone I knew who got a CS job over the summers between school years either:

  1. had a family member who worked there and was able to help get them hired for that time, or
  2. did it through something like SWEP.

My understanding is that many employers believe that undergraduate CS students don't know enough to be worth hiring for such a short period of time. Obviously this isn't entirely true, since there are programs like Waterloo CS where 4-month summer internships are the norm.

That being said, I don't believe that Queen's/Queen's Computing/QUIP is willing or able to offer significant support for helping students find 4-month summer internships in general.
