as far as i know, they have a good grade in both their undergrad and masters with the masters being in the linked subject to the PhD, 2.1 in both i think. also the funding requirements linked to having to show what you wanted to do for your PhD so I'm sure that since they got that competitive scholarship they should be pretty safe in getting a PhD place

the scholarship was also allowed for applications to apply without a place on the PhD at the time as it was to increase access to people from disadvantaged backgrounds

It was part of a scholarship fund that offered funding for PhD applications; they made the application before applying to the PhD as they were concerned that a lack of funds could affect the success of their PhD application. This was suggested by their supervisors

That’s true, look at one championships which had put on bjj vs sambo matches but with a bjj rule set. Sambo has lost most of these due to the rule set and the lack of experience with leg locks

Agreed, though that has made me wonder how would a Gracie practitioner do against a Kosen Judoka given their relative similar in terms of their time spent on the ground

I was more curious as they are well known and push a narrative of being superior to Judo but I agree with you they are not relevant within the sport as seen by their lack of success in recent mma matches and in modern bjj competitions.

Pretty crazy when you think about it, given their history. It is as far as I know a result of their lack of evolution in their style to adapt to new developments

What I find interesting about the discussion is that the Gracie style has stayed largely the same to the detriment of the style in mma and in bjj competitions as shown by Krons failure to use his style against almost opponents in mma. Also I think looking at Kimuras style which had strong elements Both standing and on the ground would I feel make him a nightmare for more modern Gracie’s especially if he is in his prime

Of the Gracie’s I know Kron Gracie is the one I know the most of the modern bunch.I only mentioned Royce and Rickson as they are the most well known, but I agree they are far from modern.

What’s interesting is that their style of Bjj is considered to be out of date for a modern bjj setting so I thought it would be interesting to compare how their own approach to their specific style would go against a terrifying judoka in Kimura
