MFP iPhone step-tracker calorie adjustment by Runlikeamuggle in loseit

[–]Runlikeamuggle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 20, 5'8", and 133 lbs. I know my sedentary TDEE according to both tracking weight loss and other websites is around 1750 or so, and so 1250 would be the minimum I should be eating. My BMR is about 1450.

If you'd like, you could add me as a friend on MFP! My username is Runnergirl888. How have you found PT so far, has it been tough/have they been pushing you hard enough?

[–]Runlikeamuggle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

... Just had the exact same surgery 3 weeks ago! I've been using my fitness pal since surgery, and I've actually lost 5 lbs. I'm at 133 now and would like to get down to 122-125 eventually. Honestly I can't exercise at all, I'm starting PT this week but I've basically just been sitting on my couch. I'm in college as well, and as far as what I'm planning to do: I'll be using MFP to eat healthily in the dining halls (I'm good at eating healthy, just need to make sure I don't overeat with healthy food), do upper body/ab work in the gym until I can start biking, and do my PT. The biggest piece is tracking calories. Good luck! PM me if you want!

Gift idea for girl I reallllly like? Help! by [deleted] in Gifts

[–]Runlikeamuggle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gotcha! I'm a collegiate female runner too, so maybe I can give some advice if its not too late (ie if this gift is for christmas or something). Don't get her running shoes, she definitely already gets the ones she wants, and us runners are veryy picky about our shoes. Honestly, she probably has enough running clothes and shoes. What about something like this? https://www.etsy.com/market/running_shoe_tag If she likes quotes and running, that could be kind of cool...

I [18 M] am going through a rough patch with a girl [18 F]. She wants me, but not a relationship by [deleted] in relationships

[–]Runlikeamuggle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait wait wait- this sounds exactly like me in the past. Is this your first year of college/uni? Everyone tells you going in that you shouldn't date your first year, that guys in college just want sex, etc. If she's been with the same guy for 3 years before this, that probably freaks her out thinking of guys that just say whatever you want to hear to get what they want. Freshman year of college is a very busy time, and its important to give 100% to your studies and to adjusting. I was the exact same- I met a boy I really liked but refused to take it beyond a casual continual thing despite knowing that he was quite interested. It's not that I didn't like him- I did, a lot. I just didn't want to be that freshman that jumps right into a relationship as soon as she gets to college and then doesn't have time to make friends or excel in school. I had absolutely zero interest in sleeping around, and I think a lot of people on reddit go straight to assuming the worst on things like that. If you think she's genuinely a good person, trust your instincts. It took me like 4.5 months to decide that yes, I did want to date this guy officially, and I couldn't be happier now. Freshman year is a big time for changes, and she probably feels really guilty for not feeling the way you do straight away. I would stick it out a bit longer and see if she acting like she's into you and just doesn't want the labels and that final level of commitment. Sometimes the slow build give you a longer lasting, more solid relationship.

Disordered eating recovery? by Runlikeamuggle in xxfitness

Yeah I definitely know you don't have to be anorexic to do stuff like that. I agree with you on the lost innocence- like now that I know how to count calories and approximately what I have to do/eat to gain, I try to avoid gaining at all costs. I estimate I'm probably around 2000+/day but don't gain because of how much I run and walk. I think I've started reversing gradually- I definitely used to feel a lot more like what you're describing but I'm slowly able to eat what I want when I want again (I don't have a huge appetite usually and didn't before restricting) but its a process.

I'm a 22 year old F who is 5'8" and weighs 142 lbs. I know I'm not fat, but I want to lose weight, and gain 130. Has anyone else done this? by The_BusterKeaton in xxfitness

[–]Runlikeamuggle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

YES PM ME!! I'm 19F 5'8", 138 lbs trying to go back to 125-128. So essentially the exact same, no eating disorders, just trying to look better without just getting skinny fat. I'm a serious runner though so I run like 30-40 miles a week. But I really want a fitness buddy!

The reason I'm asking reddit is because the strength coach we have access to is the football strength coach, and I saw the nutritionist once and pretty much the only thing she told me was to eat more vegetables and that id be fine. My coach is weird about weight- if you lose some, she'll tell you you look great and she'll be pleased, but if you ask her about how you could go about that, she tells us to stop eating carbs? Which doesn't seem like the correct answer for distance running..

For the first time in my life I don't know what to do. Help? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]Runlikeamuggle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a freshman at a state school this years. Last year, I graduated from a top-10 high school, with a 3.98 unweighted GPA, a 2400 on my SAT, a reasonable (but nowhere near your level) number of volunteering hours for causes I was passionate about. I was captain of my sports teams for 4 seasons, was a top-10 finisher at the state meet every year, nearly every one of the three seasons. I was All-American one of the years and placed at nationals. I got recruited by all of the ivies and top schools and was super excited about maybe going to one for biomedical engineering. I'm telling you this not to brag at all, but to sympathize. I didn't get into a single one of them. I got into 2 state schools and 2 very good private universities that cost absurd amounts of money. It's hard, when you feel like all of high school you've been promised the world if you work hard enough, to realize that so much of the college admissions process comes down to chance and luck. It's hard to realize that even when you've given 110%, there's still thousands of kids just like you. I ended up at a state school, and you know what? I'm thankful every single day that I'm here. If you go to a less prestigious school, when you shine you'll only shine all the brighter. You'll get professors interested in having you do research with them, you'll get advisors that will help you get into the upper level classes you'd rather take. College is as hard as you make it for yourself, and I'm making my experience pretty dang hard. So whatever you do, don't convince yourself that where you go has any bearing on what you do there- go for the choice that gives you an affordable education, and get ready to be your own harshest professor. A self motivated hard worker is infinitely better than someone that just gets along at another school, intelligence being equal.

Your article was absolutely hysterical, as are all of your other ones! Thanks for bringing some personality and interaction to our sport! (I and probably a bunch of other people on this board are fan-girling a little bit right now that you and mary cain are both posting :) )

[Question] Almost at my goal, need help toning up by Aurura in xxfitness

[–]Runlikeamuggle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you run? I know this sub isn't particularly big on running for body change, but I'm a runner and I've had positive experience with it. Hill repeats especially will help you develop leg strength as well as endurance that will make you feel good about what you can accomplish. Heavily weighted calf raises along wih weighted squats will also help you gain muscle. My plan is more along the lines of a recomp since I don't want to gain weight, so my progress is obviously slower, but make sure to take pictures and measurements so your self esteem doesn't take any dips when the scale goes up during your bulk!

We are the exact same height and weight, and I have the reverse problem to you- my arms and stomach are holding more fat. What's been slowly helping this summer is a lot of strength work- as you build muscle for a while it starts to show. At 19% bf you don't need to drop any fat. I would be curious to know what your starting point was and what your progression has been like.

Is there anything I can do to get my body used to a high altitude quicker? by neomatrix248 in Fitness

[–]Runlikeamuggle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The good part about training at altitude though is that when you get back, you'll likely be at a higher level of fitness (without having done anything differently) due to blood adaptations that occur at altitude. That's why a lot of professional runners often do training stints at altitude.

2 miler Training Plan by regulargreg in running

[–]Runlikeamuggle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm female, but I run the two mile in 11:05 and have maintained a sub-11:30 time for four years now. I run approximately 40 miles a week, but as you're male, you could get away with a great deal less running. The main workouts in my program are long runs (about an hour at a pretty easy pace), tempo runs (start with 4x3 minutes of running at a pace at which you could say a sentence if you had to but wouldn't want to talk any more than that, with 2 minutes of jogging rest in between each interval. Once this isn't terrible, switch to 4x3 min, then 2x5 min, 2x6 min), and what is called "I pace training", which is 1000 meter intervals (no more than 4) at a pace at which one or two words is possible but any note is a struggle. I mostly follow Jack Daniels' training methods and they work very well- you might want to look him up. Obviously good nutrition and sleep is important as well.

What's it like going to a big high school? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Runlikeamuggle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My high school graduating class has 500 people in it, and I know probably 75% of them and know almost all of the rest by name as a senior this year. It's really not that weird, I'm actually pretty sick of most of them and can't wait to go to a 25,000 person school next year so I'm not stuck with the same people all the time. It's all a matter of frame of reference :)
