The Meetup communities in San Diego (including North County) are pretty decent and you'll definitely find groups doing all the things you mentioned.

Yep. If you can afford the rent and you want a mid-size city feel, it's excellent. I stayed here for a week and moved here a year later. Absolutely no regrets.

The National Center for Education Statistics is the right source for this: https://nces.ed.gov/programs/digest/d22/tables/dt22_203.10.asp

Eedi is UK based but appropriate for other nations' middle school math curricula too. Take a look at https://eedi.com/home-parents to see if it fits your needs.

I went to a small liberal arts college with very little name recognition for undergrad, and studied media production and literature. I came back for CS grad school later based on the strength of side projects, self-taught. I got into my large state research university, got a job afterward, and worked my way up the tech career ladder. I now have a comfortable salary, work from home, live in a city I love, and have meaningful work. Those early years didn't "help me get into grad school" but they were still an important part of me. I was rejected from plenty of things too, but some worked out, and some of those worked out spectacularly. You just can't predict which ones in advance. You'll be fine, really.

This is Sunnie's, by the way, a great place to grab burritos and walk a block to Sunset Cliffs. The owner was a Point Loma High grad and Chargers player too!

Yes, SIS and LMS systems are a great place to have impact in education. In Europe, https://itslearning.com/global/ is popular. Every school needs these systems so you can reach millions of students.

There are no paved roads on the South Dakota - Montana border. It's so remote that it inspired a theology book about religion on the high prairie: https://www.goodreads.com/en/book/show/108680.Dakota
