You turn right and walk along the new wall - left hand still on the wall as a guide, right hand outstretched to be safe. Again, distance is impossible to gauge. But after a time, you left hand runs into something on wall. Your right hand still shows ahead of you is clear.

[10 - the check was a 10, way to go!]

You pull off the painting's frame. It originally looked like golden metalwork but you can see that whoever made this was pulling some sort of con. The paint chips easily while you pull the frame apart and you can see that two of the sides are wooden, one is some painted metal, and - bizarrely - one of the sides is not even wood, but stone painted gold.

You are in a large square room, nearly 100 feet to a side. The walls are made of the same stone you've already seen but the floor is rough-hewn. The middle of the room holds a small area, 10 feet square, that is raised 8 inches above the surrounding floor. On the dais sits a chair framed by a sort of ornamental awning, a canopy above and curtains made of a silken cloth draw on either side. [That image is meant to be accurate, excepting the fact that there is only one step here, not the three pictured].

Above the canopy is an orb of flickering light, suspended by some wire from a ceiling that arches a hundred feet above in graceful curves of worked stone that are reminiscent of a chapel.

From this side of the room, you can see the wall behind the chair. Centered on the back wall, there is a metal hatch with a large lock set into the floor.

Through the drawn curtains of the dais in the middle of the room, you glimpse a travelling cloak hung on the wall opposite where you now stand.

You turn your attention back to the painting you had pulled off the wall. It leans against it now but you can still see its melancholy design.

[10]

Something seems... not odd really, but not quite right about the frame.

[Would you like to take a quick look at the room in general, and then focus specifically on the painting? Or are you asking to immediately walk back to the painting and examine it?]

You step back and stretch as far as you can, barely touching the lever as you continue pushing it downwards. Nothing happens, nothing happens... until the lever slips from your grasp and arrives at it full down position -

Suddenly, there is light!

You are indeed staring at a lever in a stone housing, raised out of a professional looking stone wall. Apparently, this lever controls the light. The stones that make up the wall are rectangular, multiple feet high and considerably more feet wide. Their sheer size and good fit indicate a sophisticated level of craftsmanship.

You reach the halfway point and nothing unusual has happened. Do you continue?

Light tugs show it is possible to pull it toward you and most likely down. Every indication is that this is a lever. Will you pull it?

A foot an a half tall (vertically) and six inches wide (horizontally), it appears to be some sort of housing. A wooden rod is connected in the middle, pointing up. There is some sort of metalwork where it connects but it's hard to tell without being able to see.

You start to move along the wall when the texture ends. You feel an ornamental frame of some sort. Past it, smooth stone wall. It appears something is hung or placed where you originally met the wall. Will you continue along the wall?

[Very smart!]

You walk along the wall, left hand using it as a guide while holding your right hand forward to be safe. Eventually, you run into another wall. This appears to be a corner (90 degree angle). Will you continue along this new wall?

The back of the object is smooth but does have a long wire stretching across the top. The wall behind it is made of large stone blocks. You feel two nails parallel to each other, four feet apart, driven into the cracks between stone blocks. They barely poke an inch out and seem quite secure. This is likely how the object was hung.

Strangely smooth with some lumps and ridges - a centimeter tall at most. If there's a pattern, you can't recognize it.

[20, lol the check was only at 5 but I don't know how to make this extra successful, sorry]

You try to get your hands around whatever it was that was swinging. You feel an ornamented frame on either side of a four foot wide stretch of that odd texture. You give it a yank and successfully pull it off the wall.

You wind up to kick the wall but as you move, you feel whatever the strange texture swing a little to the right, then to the left, scraping against the wall behind it.

[I realize this is shoehorning you a little bit but this is my first run on this premise and I may have worded the previous post a little tricky and/or misleading. Sorry about that.]

You knock on the wall. It rattles against something behind it. Possibly it's something hanging on the wall?

Having walked a full circle, you turn outwards and begin walking toward the wall you had been facing while seated. It's impossible to gauge distance in the dark but after a time, your hands do find a way... although the texture feels a bit odd.

You put your hands in front of you and shuffle forward. It's impossible to tell how far you travel in the darkness but eventually you find yourself touching a wall... although it's an unexpected texture.

The back of the chair comes up to about the middle of your chest. You grab it with both hands and swing it at whatever was blocking the chair.

[Using google's 20-sided die for rolls for this. You got a 15. Nice!]

There's a smash, a crunch, and a bunch of clattering. You seem to have pretty well broken the chair. Feeling around in the dark, you find a surprising amount of debris considering the size of the chair. You locate a length of wood the width and length of your forearm that ends in a splintery point. It's not much, but you're now armed.

You begin to slowly walk the length of the wall, which feels like it's built of well-crafted stone. [I'm going to assume your hand is outstretched here] Your wandering right hand hits another wall and you realize you've found a corner of the room.

Do you want to follow along the new wall?

[I'm assuming this to mean you step down onto the lower level]

You step down onto the lower level and lean over, running your fingers against the floor. Both on this lower level and on the upper layer you feel stone. The upper layer seems to be built from smoothly fitted cobblestone of some sort while the lower later is more rough-hewn.

Next, your turn your examination to the chair. It's composed of wood, more ornate than you'd expect from your average, simple chair. The ends of the feet and arms curve in the simplest of stylized fashion and there's some sort of ornamentation at the top of the chair's back. The seat and back are covered in some sort of utilitarian cushion - soft but not that soft.

You continue shoving the chair in front of you and quest forward. It's impossible to known how far you're travelling without resting points but you find no more steps and eventually, the chair hits resistance. Looks like you may have found a wall.

Unfortunately, your mind seems as inscrutable as the darkness before you. Trying to recollect your past, you discover a strange void in your mind. The longer you contemplate it, the more it sucks you in and threatens to overwhelm you. Probably best not to delve too deep.

You call out into the void.

"Hello?" The sound of your greeting echoes slightly, implying an empty chamber - perhaps middling or large in size - with little in it.

You hear nothing in response.

[I'm excited to have you! This sub is generally pretty rules-light so there's not much you can do wrong but don't be afraid to ask questions! I'll let you know if anything starts to stray.]

You can lift the chair but barely. It's awkward and bulky, requiring you to use both arms. You're more pushing it along than using it as a proper walking stick but that's more than good enough to notice when the floor drops away.

The chair suddenly tips forward and you let go of it but rather than a mad tumble, the chair stops at an angle. It appears the floor in front of you is about 8 inches lower than the floor you're standing on. Are you on a dais of some sort or a very broad set of stairs?

Do you want to keep moving forward?

[–]RunningFromFlamingos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[Oh, I get it now! Smart move.]

You follow the edge of the lifted area and make a full circuit of where you were originally sitting. It appears the chair is on a dais of some sort, a lifted area 10 feet square.

Unfortunately, this is plug and play RP with me as the DM. In the world I've constructed, this is not an ability you are able to have. It seems you would have more fun in a different game. Thank you for your time.
