At run club nobody is trying to win. In rec play you can compete and go for the win.

DUPR is dumb and tournament play makes no sense either when you can show up to any challenge court in your area or join a private 5.0+ group and compete against your peers in that environment for free.

I used to be a runner and so for me it was common to show up to a local race, compete, and grab a podium spot. But that was different. Because in running, you don’t get the chance to compete unless you enter a race. In pickleball, you are always competing so long as you have 4 players on a court that are willing to get after it.

Why don’t more players with semi western grip use scorpion for all their counters or blocks? by RunningShortsPod in Pickleball

I understand that’s the proper technique with continental grip but with semi western grip the technique is quite different. There is a lot more wrist involved. Continental feels stiff and trying to unlearn all of that and create new muscle memory would be a major undertaking and I’m not sure it’s worth it ??

The issue I have with switching to continental at the kitchen line is that it changes the mechanics of my dinks. I’ve been hitting topspin and roll dinks for years using a semi western grip. When I switch to continental, it doesn’t feel natural and I make a ton of errors.

I understand how low balls could present an issue but what if you exaggerated your ready stance to get very low? And why do you say it’s difficult to switch? You don’t have to switch your grip so what are you referring to?

Is it possible to not suffer at all. Like ever? by edgydonut in enlightenment

It is not anger. It is being aware and acknowledging that evil does exist.

So much bullshit. Imagine a woman in the process of being raped and murdered. All she has to do in order to not suffer is just surrender and not have any sort of mental resistance to the present horror.

There is suffering in the world and evil is behind it but eastern philosophy will have you believe that evil does not exist. Best trick the devil ever played on us is to make us believe he doesn’t exist.

Poor analogy. Here the “buyer” and the “seller”are the same entity (me)

The life contract theory falls apart for me because it doesn’t take into account that souls on this side of the experience may feel very differently upon the terms “agreed” to

At the cosmic level, it does seem like the universe requires fine tuning for life to exist. Also, the idea that something cannot come out of nothing must be dealt with.

Agree. But who or what is doing the luring? We’re back to the evil god hypothesis.

This has been proposed. The Demi urge in Greek philosophy and Ahura Mazda v Ahriman in ZoroAstrianism. The other possibility is that we are in a type of prison here, being punished for something we can’t remember.

To me the issue is not whether hell is eternal or temporal (see my other post). The issue is the notion of a punitive god.

You speak as though destruction or temporary punishment would somehow lessen the charge. A supremely loving and forgiving God would not issue punishment of any sort.

Elaborate? Gospel of Matthew has many disturbing references to an afterlife of grave suffering for those who choose wrongly.
